Guest guest
Hi Tammy, Great news on your surgery date with Dr. Aceves. I just got home last night from having the Revision from the band to the sleeve. I will not pretend like this is the easiest thing I have ever done but I'm hoping it's going to prove to be the most productive. I'm only 4 days out post op. Drove from MX to Phoenix last night, so feeling a little weak and tired today. I too went alone but by the time you go through all the necessary procedures with your group sleevers, you will feel like you have been friends forever and develop meaningful relationships that you will always cherish. You don't feel along. I am a very social person. So just be social and realize you are all in this together. Don't be afraid about going alone. I also had a friend who was willing to pay for the entire cost of the surgery if I would have it done in the US. Believe me, finances are difficult for me, I have been on disability since 9/11/01 as I was injured in the World Trade Center towers during the attacks on that day in NYC. Although the cost is great and I had to take out a loan, it's worth it to me to be able to go back to Dr. Aceves. Words cannot express my gratitude the Dr. A & his team. I wouldn't go to any other Dr. now matter how cheap I could get it done. You will have no worries my dear and you will love them even more after this surgery. I wish you the very best on your journey!!! Dawn Revision 11/27/10, 204 lbs. Re: Tammy please read this Hi Tammy, I'm new here but I am also going to have my VSG with Dr Aceves very soon. My Cardiologist would not give me clearance until I had a Mibi Lexiscan Stress Test done 1st which took some time to schedule and I just got the results last week...it's perfect! So now I have to fax it to Nina tomorrow and see about getting a date scheduled...the sooner, the better. I want you to know that I know how you feel about lack of family support...it feels awful...so lonely...and like no one respects my judgement for my own body. The man I have lived with for over 30 years has not been supportive either of me going to Mexico. He even offered to give me $15,000 towards the surgery if I would have it done here in the US. We have a "Bariatric Center of Excellence" hospital about 25 min from my house. They even have the latest technology using the DaVinci Robot to assist in the Laparoscopic surgery. However, after doing quite a bit of research, none of the Dr's there have anywhere near the experience that Aceves has for VSG. So, I'm going to Mexico alone. I have only told two people, my significant other and my sister, and they both think I'm crazy! I have them sworn to secrecy though because I do not want to tell my adult son (lives about one and 1/2hrs away) until I return. My sister had a Laparoscopic RNY in Aug 2010 here in the US and suffered a terrible incisional infection that went about 4-5" deep. She had to have a visiting nurse come to her house everyday for several weeks to clean out the wound and pack it (very painful I hear), so the US Surgeon and US hospital (also a Bariatric Center of Excellence) didn't end up being any better for her. I see you are leaving on Dec 8th from FL. Is your surgery still scheduled on the 1oth? Are you going alone? What date do you plan to fly back home? I'm trying to make sense of all the traveling and what I'll be able to handle. I prefer not to stay in a hotel at all after my surgery before returning home since it would probably be difficult to prepare /store the clear post op liquids we need. I live in northern New England so it will be at least a 7 or 8 hr flight for me depending on how many stops. I wish I could go at the same time as you so that we could support each other there thru this, but I still have to get a surgery date and probably couldn't get one that quickly anyway. I really want to get it over with too, before Christmas if at all possible. Have you started the Pre-Op Diet yet? Does Nina E-mail that to you? I would like to have all the post op info (copy of diet, required follow up care, etc) before I even leave to go there so I can purchase the necessary items. Did Nina send it in advance? Sorry for all the questions but I'd love to hear from you and hear how you are doing. You can E-mail me direct if you prefer. Priscilla > > > > > > > > I really appreciate everyone's support!!
