Guest guest
I understand. I have not been able to eat meat in soooo long. I wish i had the answers for you. I am going to get a total unfill on the 26th and see if that helps me. You may need to also just to heal up and give it a break..I am not sure if that helps with what you are looking for. I know that this affects all of us in different ways of living with our bands, just from reading the boards. From: <krrecruiting@...>Subject: RE: Re: **Sleeve or Lapband** Date: Thursday, May 15, 2008, 11:28 AM I had my lapband put in on July 13th of 2007. I weighed in at 207 and am now at 155. I have had good days and bad days..good weeks and bad weeks. This is a bad week. I had tri-tip for Mothers day and accidently swalled a big piece..PBd and have not been good since..cannot get much down. Last meal I remember having that I felt "satisfied" and ate pretty much everything was on May 4th. Since then,I don’t think I have enjoyed a meal. Everything I eat is uncomfortable. Anything solid like steak or chicken..sometimes even soup does not feel good in my pouch. I don’t want to get an unfill if I am going to gain back what I have lost, but I cannot continue with this not eating thing. I would love to have a bite of something and not stress that it will not go down and that I will feel bad. Any suggestions on what a good fill is and when you know you are overfilled? With either the port(having to have it replaced or vomitingor just not being able to get enough food or protein in or nevergetting off of mushy foods.. Protein shakes, soups and mushy foods (tome) are NOT healthy//I guess I have to put my 2 cents worth in on this discussion. I havehad my lapband for over 2 1/2 years and can truthfully say I have nothad these "major" problems and neither has my daughter who has had herband longer than I have! I think most of those problems mentionedcame from too tight of a fill and ignoring it because they were losingweight by not eating! Yes, I have had incidents of PBing gettingstuck but it has not been constant! I have found that I can eat aboutanything I want but just not a lot like I used to. At times I haveeaten too much apparently and stretched my pouch a little but havegone on liquids for awhile and it has gone down. Not a MAJOR deal, Ijust wasn't losing weight any more but I did take the responsibilityto get it checked out. Yes, we lapbanders do need to do some work andtake some responsibility to lose our weight and maintain our lapbands, but if we really listen to Dr. Aceves and Dr. Campos and follow whatthey say I believe most of us will accomplish our goals and not haveMAJOR problems. I think this is true of any WLS. BTW I have NEVERhad an issue with my port and have had 4 fills by an American Doctor. That is not to say that it isn't possible for a few people to haveport problems but the big picture is that thousands of lapbands havebeen placed by Dr. Aceves and a very few people have had port problems.I agree with Donna that a liquid or mushy diet is unacceptable andif a person can not eat "normal" there is something wrong and must becorrected ASAP in order to avoid problems. I also believe that thevast majority of folks with lapbands are doing fine with their bandsafter the first 6 or so months of adjusting to band and fills. Dr.Campos recommends that we have a check up for our band every 6months. I've heard to have it checked at least once a year afterbeing satisfied with your degree of fill. As far as the "sweet spot"issue goes, I KNOW my fill is right because I saw it under fluoro andknow the liquid is going down in a slow trickle. BUT I also know thatit can change from time to time due to stress, TOM, etc. I can notjust eat indiscriminately. It's not magic, the weight doesn't justfall off. I still need to make good choices, eat slowly, chew welland THINK about how I am feeling as I eat. These are the rules andthey do work but we can "EAT AROUND THE BAND" if we choose to. Butwhy would we after investing as much money as we have to lose this weight?I chose the lapband because it was the least invasive and could beadjusted. I read about the sleeve and at that time (3 years ago) thedisadvantages included leakage and stretching in a lot of cases so Ididn't choose it. I still don't know if I would choose it althoughthe advantage of not having to mess with fills does seem nice. Itstill is invasive, in that part of your stomach is removed, but maybenow looking back I could live with that. At the time that I wasconsidering WLS it still would have been a major consideration for me.As it is, I am still VERY happy with my lapband and hope to have itfor the rest of my life and see no reason for me not to. As everyoneis saying, do the research--so many new things are happening almostdaily. Maybe something else new will come up and you will want tolook at it too but, do something! It will be the best thing you haveever done for yourself! It certainly has been for me and for mydaughter. Best wishes for a wonderful journey into weight loss!
