Yes, most of the time I find it hard to make plans. Usually, its because of

the headaches as they are my biggest problem. I have a lot of fatigue from

the Stills and some minor (compared to what it used to be!) joint swelling.

Usually, this alone isn't enough to cancel plans, though I do have days when

I just feel horrible. With the headaches (or maybe partly from the Stills

too), I seem to be very sensitive to everything. A hot room makes me feel

awful, bright light (like sitting by a window in a restaurant) is also bad.

Fortunately, my husband and most of my family understand I have to " plan "

around my illness. But it does stink as I've missed a few out-of-town

weddings...afraid to commit to going, then feel horrible that day and can't

go. Even when I do commit to something, I am nervous about it...hoping i

won't feel horrible or have a terrible headache that day.

One thing that's really helped me, and I found it kind of surprising... we

became friendly with a couple (Jim & Nell) who now have a two-year-old and

an infant. Nell and I have become friends and started shopping on Saturdays

about once a month. She understands that I won't know til that day if I can

go, might need to come home early, might need to rest alot, etc. But, even

though our last trip with the two kids was totally exhausting, I enjoyed it.

I've discovered that after chasing a two-year-old around the mall, I really

am not focusing on myself at all. It gets me totally out of my own head (if

that makes any sense!), and usually the pain takes a backseat to my enjoying

the day. Of course, until I get home and totally crash then pay for it the

next day :-) But it's worth it!

Sorry to babble on.....hope I haven't bored anyone too much

Laurie, most airlines have a web site. You can go there and find cheaper

rates. They are relatively easy to navigate (the sites) and you can usually

find some GREAT deals. OF course, you may have to depart at 3 a.m. or

something like that, but the savings are well worth it. Search " Cheap air

fairs " on Google or something like that and see if you can find the site. IT

will search the " specials " and such of several airlines and then show you

the results.

Avis, Hettz, National, and Budget all have rental locations at the

You may also want to do a search for Bakersfield,CA, the click on

Thanks Jim. I've only been looking on Travelocity.com. Maybe I'll

try some others today. Hey, at least August shouldn't be tourist

season in California, right? Who wants to go to California in the

dead heat of summer? I'm hoping I'm right and the ticket price will

drop a little (or a lot would be nice).

Hi Laurie,

Someone may have already mentioned this but there's an Enterprise

Norma, I look forward to being a "sleeve sister" with you, too. We can all attest to our yo-yo dieting for many years. As many others have said, my only regret is not doing this years ago. I am 67 and didn't want to die fat. I longed to go from my size 16's to at least a 12. Well, it's been 6 mos. I've gone from 16 to an 8-10, from xlarge blouses to medium. My son called me a "hottie". I was on a date recently and all I had to eat was an appetizer. My date said "no wonder you're so skinny". Life is sooooo good now. You will find a lot of genuine, honest support on this site. Welcome aboard.

I have been obese to morbidly obese for nearly 45 years and am tired of it. I have dieted off and on all my life and although I excell in most other areas of life, weight loss is not one of them. I am so exhausted with the fight. I have researched gastric bypass and refused to do that, then tried to get the band but could never get the insurance companies to approve the surgery. Now I have decided to get the sleeve with Dr Aceves. It has been a long 10 years of start-stop, revise, start again research. I am looking for a support group that is honest and real. I hope I have found it here. I had been referred to verticalsleevetalk. com by one of Dr A's coordinator and liked it till some paid posters who were squawking with the moderaters apparently complained about how they were being treated and the moderators resigned due to lack of support from the owners of that board. So I understood the other thread here and noticed the number of people here who

came out of the woodwork to respond to that. After that person's second post, I wonder if she was not simply one of the paid posters that was squawking on vst who hated Dr. A and posted here trying to cause trouble. I guess time will tell. I believe I have found the way for me to save money and get financing for the sleeve but am waiting somewhat impatiently for Dr. Aceves' cooordinator to call me back. I am wondering what the process steps are--I have answered the medical questions 3 weeks ago with the coordinator. Hopefully, Dr Aceves has gotten back to her and she will call me soon.Anyway, I look forward to getting to know you and to becoming a sleeve sister and getting on with my life. N

I found it hard to communicate with Dr.A's staff by phone, not because they didn't try, but it just didn't fit my / their schedule well and Gaby and Nina were very busy trying to answer EVERYONE's questions, completely.

I can tell you that email was the best for me. I have never emailed anyone on Dr. A's staff that did not answer me the very same day. I often send my emails to Nina and Gaby at the same time, therefore whichever gets to it first, takes care of it.

They have ALWAYS responded to me. You might try the email method. It also give you a paper trail and you can always go back and reread the info and you don't have to try to remember what was said on the phone.

CONGRATS!!! I am having my sleeve done in October. Best of Luck to you. My mom, aunt and cousin have all had surgery with Dr. A and have made wonderful progress and have had nothing but the kindest things to say about Dr. A and his staff.

I believe that you will find a good support group of people here who have been down the same roads that you have been. We have all been on and off diets our whole adult lives and feel similarly to you. I had the sleeve done last year June 2008 and it has changed my life. No longer do I feel ashamed to have my picture taken for fear of looking like a pumpkin head and I no longer dread getting into clothes. Now it is a pleasure to get into a smaller size and feel good about walking around and bending down without huffing and puffing for air.

Many of us on this board are highly educated and have or have had professional careers. It is amazing to me how many of the women and men on this board are RN's or have medical careers. We have finally found the answer to our weight issues and for me the sleeve has been a life saver. I have lost 85 lbs and need to lose about 20 more. Some have lost it faster than I have, but I am not in a race. I can eat anything I want...but just very small portions! I don't feel like I am on a diet...and when I need to watch my calorie intake for the day because I ate a bit more the day before....it is so much easier to make healthier choices. I don't feel I am EVER depriving myself and I love that I don't have the low blood sugar headaches anymore either.

I do hope you get the surgery as soon as possible and go back and read all of the posts you can about people who have gone before you and gotten the surgery. The posts all read the same.....the experience was awesome, the staff, doctor, hospital were so superior to what I have encountered in the states that I am still in awe of how excellent the care was.

I know many of us on this board are very open and will help anyone we can. Feel free to email anyone of us and we will respond. Contrary to some posts, we do respond....I have had many people respond to my posts, both on and off the boards.

Best wishes for a wonderful journey!

Gail
