From what I have read Prilosec has both right and left handed molecules of

the active ingredient in it. (A right handed molecule is the mirror image

of a left handed molecule. Just as your right hand is the mirror image of

your left hand.) In Nexium all molecules are of the same hand.

, has it been determined that your pain is from acid, or are these spasm pains? Sorry if you've already answered this, but I couldn't remember if you'd tried any of the "spasm pain" drugs that others have had luck with (nifedipine, nitro, nortryptaline).

Are you considering more surgery? I recall you said that they didn't cut far enough last time....are they thinking of trying again to cut down further?Debbi, hoping you can find some relief soon!

I have been taking Nexuim for about 3mos 1 every morning 20 minutes before breakfast My breakfast is carnation mix with milk The Dr was not sure it would work since he thought my heart burn was from decaying food Not gerd Acid reflux With a diet it worked The diet was no tomatoes.. juices,, hot spicy foods Now it's not working I take Tums after lunch ,when I can eat lunch And before going to bed I have an appointment with the Dr ..Nov 18 Soon after he will do an enscopey I haven't done one in 3 years I have been sipping cold water Sort of trying to put out the fire I am worried NOW what next ????

Hi ;

My spasms have stopped completely since I started taking Nexium about six months ago. The Nexium doesn't actually help my swallowing, but I feel very comfortable about eating and not having to worry about what I eat causing a spasm. I take my pill at 7:00 P.M. (I don't take it during the day as I always end up "losing" some food throughout the day) It's a 24 hour pill, so if you do suffer from the "heartburn" feeling, taking another Nexium is not the answer. The purpose of Nexium is to reduce acid production. That was obviously my problem. Too much acid. I highly recommend Nexium.

Good Luck.

Hi Pete,

Is the norvasc smaller than the Nexium? Sometimes I have a lot of trouble swallowing the Nexium and it sits for hours. Is it available in Canada? I'll have to read about it any way, as I already have low blood pressure.

Thanks,

.

RE: Re: thanks everyone!

I'm glad Nexium helps. My company makes the drug and I have worked recently on the intravenous form of it for surgery.

I am currently taking norvasc, I just started two weeks ago, and it helps me. My doctor said it's a newer drug. I take it once a day at the start of the day and it seems to be effective all day. I have gotten one headache, but never got another one. It does lower your blood pressure and makes you very calm. Actually a nice side effect if I do say so myself. It doesn't entirely remove the eating problems, but allow me to eat a faster, with larger bites, and I can drink cold liquids when I take it. Normally all of my liquids have to be warm. Actually I don't have to drink as much to wash things down. I can tell when I forget to take it.

, I believe Norvasc is a blood pressure medication, rather than an acid medication. Either one might work for you with regard to NCCP's, but if you have a true acid situation, Norvasc won't help you out with that.

Hey, did you get that eval. done on the 12yo yesterday? How did it go????Deb

,

Norvasc is a small elongated octagon shaped uncoated tablets. It practically dissolves in my mouth when I take it.

Nexium is about the same size, but is a capsule. Norvasc and Nexium help completely different problems. I current take both. I know Nexium is available in Canada I don't know about Norvasc, but I would guess yes. It's a pretty safe drug on the market for about a decade.

I got this from a Nexium Information form.

If you have difficulty swallowing it then open the capsule and careful empty the pellets into one table spoon of applesauce. The pellets should be mixed with the applesauce and then swallowed immediately. The applesauce used should not be hot and should be soft enough to be swallowed without chewing. The pellets should not be chewed or crushed. The pellet/applesauce mixture should not be stored for future use. The pellets have also been shown in vitro to remain intact when exposed to tap water, orange juice, apple juice and yogurt.

So you have many options for swallowing Nexium.

I just threw a Nexium into a glass of warm tap water. The capsule dissolved, but the pellets remained intact.

I hope this helps.

Pete

Hey guys,

For the past 6-7 yrs, I've been on daily doses of Norvasc and Cozaar. I am "hypertensive"' , with high BP. Since my doctors have mentioned that Norvasc has the side effect of relaxing the esophagus, I have stopped taking those two meds, hoping that it might help the peristalisis in my esoph.

No luck yet.

Hi Debbi, (and Pete)

I definitely have an acid problem. I have felt much better since I started the Nexium. Crunching it up or dissolving it in juice doesn't work for me. I get so nauseated from the after-taste of the pill, I end up losing everything in my stomach. I even tried eating my chewable vitamin C right after. That reminds me, the other day you asked if I could swallow a lot of water to help the food down. I can't do that because I am only able to take small sips. Believe me, I've tried every method possible. I know exactly when I can't have one more bite or sip without racing for the bathroom. Thanks for explaining about Norvasc.

P.S. Cliff was uncooperative and moody at the meeting. He basically wasted the Specialist's time. Just imagine, we have a brand new hospital in Thunder Bay, and not one Doctor willing to see new patients :-(

I'll phone Children's Aid on Monday and see what will happen. Thanks for asking. Most people I've discussed the situation with have told me Ritalin is better than Risperdal because it's more difficult to stop taking Risperdal. I'll let you know when I hear something from the Doctor.

Take Care,

.

I have taken Oil of Oregano all winter and did not have ONE cold. The flu was rampant in MI. I did not get a flu shot, nor did I get the flu! I always get a bad case of bronchitis every winter and did not have that either. I believe this is a good choice! Article below:Natural infection fighter works better than best antibioticsThe number of antibiotic-resistan t bugs is growing daily. Visit any hospital and your risk of getting a resistant infection is very high. Stay overnight and your risk goes up even more. So what can you do to fight infection without using antibiotics? Researchers have found a natural substance that's comparable to powerful antibiotics in killing germs, including staph. It's even comparable to the powerful, expensive, and toxic antibiotic vancomycin. Doctors typically reserve this drug for methicillin resistance. Not only is this drug as powerful as antibiotics, it can do something antibiotics can't do. In addition to killing bacteria, it also can kill Candida and intestinal parasites. What is this amazing natural antibiotic? It's the inexpensive and common oil of oregano! In a test tube study, oil of oregano inhibited the deadly staph germ just as well as penicillin and streptomycin. But many strep strains are resistant to these older drugs, requiring very powerful, expensive and dangerous vancomycin. Oil of oregano took care of the germ as well as vancomycin! Then researchers from town University tested oil of oregano on animals. They gave mice lethal staph infections. They gave one group a placebo -- all of them died.. The researchers gave another group of mice carvacrol, believed to be the active ingredient in oil of oregano; all of them died. And they gave a third group a relatively low dose of the whole oil (two to three drops daily). Of these mice, 50% survived. This showed that the whole product is superior to its isolated components (perceived active ingredient). It also showed how powerful this oil really is. And it's much cheaper than the drugs. Consider this: Vancomycin costs about $16 per pill compared to $1 per capsule of oil of oregano. In all honesty, that's not a fair comparison. You would need about 10 capsules of oil of oregano to get the same effectiveness as one vancomycin. However, it's still a 40% savings. Germs don't develop resistance to it. And it spares your kidney and the rest of your body from toxicity. God gave us remedies for just about every disease in nature. Old Chinese philosophy suggests looking over your shoulder for what ails you. For instance, you find artemisinin, which is a cure for malaria, in plants where malaria is common. By comparison, oregano grows just about anywhere. If you get an infection, you don't have to be afraid to reach for natural remedies to treat it. Please add oil of oregano to the other infection fighters I've discussed in the past. These include silver hydrosol, citrus seed extracts, olive leaf extract, aloe vera, echinacea, and cat's claw. This is a powerful line of infection-fighting nutrients. My favorite brand is Biotics ADP. It's a standardized emulsified form of oil of oregano and readily available on the Internet. I've used it for years on my patients, and I've seen tremendous results. I typically use one to two tablets with meals, four times daily. You can also get a standardized drop. They should contain at least 85% carvacrol, the active molecule. You can start with one drop four times daily. It is really strong stuff and quite irritating. Don't ingest without diluting it in water. True, but what are you to do? If you have a lot of heartburn you can't enjoy food anyways. I take Prevacid. I'm supposed to take it daily, but only take it when my stomach is really acidic, maybe twice a week. I also get spells at night where the acid will come up out of the stomach and go down my trachea. I probably have sleep apnea. If you've ever had a spell of that, it makes you take the antacid. You can't breathe. The acid causes the trachea to go into spasm and it closes. Now the doctor has given me nitro to have on hand in case I get another one of these attacks. I'm afraid to use it as nitro can cause severe headaches. Have ventolin for asthma and I used that. But it was really scary for a few minutes. So I use the antacid as little as possible. My stomach has been better lately so I don't have to use it constantly. I have to try to guage when I need to

take it. Helen Ellie Gunter <ellie@...> wrote: Nexium and other antacid drugs cause lot of problems. They dont allow you to absorb your food... have you read about it? I read the article. Here is the key sentence, Yang speculated that these drugs hinder calcium absorption in some people. I take aciphex 20 mg twice a day, it is sure better than suffering the severe chest pains that I get from gerd, and it helps to ward the asthma attacks that silent reflux causes. Too many people read things on the Internet and believe it all to be true. Procede with caution, as some of the information given is dangerous. Yes, now I sort of do the same thing.

I was on that stuff every day from 1998 - 2007, The doctors convinced me that I needed to take more of

it. I finally went to a natural doctor and he told me that that stuff CAUSES the stomach pain.!!!

So after getting the go ahead from an A OK endoscopy, I weaned off of it.

Vwallllaaaaaa! My stoach problems got better and better.

Now, as long as I dont go nuts and drink oj or coffee,, or lots of black pepper etc..

I dont need any of it.

I took 1/3 Nexuim about 2 weeks ago.... It helped right away and I didnt need to take it any more.

They say after 50 we dont have enough acid.

We get heartburn cause we lack HCL and the food is rotting, causeing a build up of lactic acid,

which is the heartburn.

I now take digestive pancreatic enzymes and one with a very small amount of hydorcloric acid in it,

and I am digesting better than ever.

I am hoping my bone density will be bette soon too, due to my body now absorbing the vit D and calcuim

hydroxyappetite that I am taking.

I had osteopenia 5 years ago, my last dexa scan last feb. Shows that I have regained bone and no longer have the condition. I am a heavy smoker, I know bad habit, don't always eat right, and can't exercise like I should. I use miacalcin nasal spray a couple times a week to maintain plus still take my estrogen that I have been on since my hysterectomy in 1997. My endocrinologist is very happy with my results, I tried going off the estrogen once, but he had me stay on it for the bone protection. If the aciphex helps me not to have the breathing problems, good. Plus I don't have to be so careful about what I eat. Life is hard enough with fibro I refuse to allow it to ruin my life totally. Ellie, I see by your phone number that you are in Pinnellas county. I use to live in Largo, but hubby got transferred so I am now On the east coast in Melbourne. I am on Largo today as hubby and I are doing some work on the place we have for sale here. Okay so the Nexium here in Canada is not like the stuff they give you in Mexico

and it does not dissolve well and leaves a gross taste in my mouth. and I don't

think it works as well either. I just had surgery Sept 28 and only have 8 days

left of the Nexium Mups. Did anyone else experience this and use something else

like Tecta or Prilosec? And because the stuff is not suppose to be disolves did

you swallow a pill that quick after surgery?

If anyone has any advice I would love to hear it.

Thanks

Prilosec is not available in Canada..From: Marilou <terriertamer@...>" " < >Sent: Sun, October 3, 2010 5:20:57 PMSubject: Re: Nexium

I use Prilosec. I crushed the pills using a pill crusher and added to about an ounce of water. Did not dissolve so I just gulped it down. I took all my meds the same way.Marilou Sent from Marilou's iPadOn Oct 3, 2010, at 12:33 PM, <movie_mommy@...> wrote:

I got the Nexium in Canada and noticed they were 40g instead of the 20g from Mexico. My doctor called the pharmacy and they said you can cut them in half if you prefer, I do not, and that they can be mixed in water. My Nexium dissolve as well as the ones given to me in Mexicali. Not sure why yours did not dissolve or where you heard that from.

I was wondering if you can cut the Nexium pills into four pieces and just swallow them. Also would like to know if its okay to do that with daily vitamin pills. Cut them into pieces and swallow.

Right now I have the Unjury chewable vitamins but I really do not like the taste and will replace them with a regular vitamin if I can cut them up. They are so huge.

Has Dr. Aceves or any of your primary care docs addressed the study showing a greatly increased risk of hip fractures in people using PPI's long term?? I haven't had the surgery yet and the likely long term need for PPI's was already a concern for me - more so since this new study.EdieSent from my U.S. Cellular BlackBerry® smartphoneFrom: SuzanneSH@...Sender: Date: Sun, 3 Oct 2010 19:25:30 EDT< >Reply Subject: Re: NexiumHi , Yep I experienced the very same thing. I now use Prilosec and it works great for me--I have been using it for 2 years now and will probably use it the rest of my life. My doctor prescribed it for me and I get the Generic brand with a prescription and it cost less that the Over The Counter here in the US. I just pay my co-pay and that is $5.00. I am not sure how your insurance works in Canada. I know of other people also who didn't do well on Nexium. So go ahead and try Prilosec, and I was able to swallow the Prilosec so that worked out well for me and I only take it once a day and I take mine in the mornings. Suzanne

Omeprazole is the generic for Prilosec that we use.

Bipley is right on this one. I picked up the bottle of adult gummy vitamins and compared them to a brand that Costco has that are like Centrum Adult vitamins and the DO NOT contain all the things we need. The Adult Chewable Centrum taste OK and you can deal with them.
