Guest guest
No problemo...I've been called worse :^), just didn't want to respond to someone elses message. You're right, you're not far away. I was in Pleasant Hills today. I'm glad your surgery went better. How much height did you gain? Mike grew 3 inches with a 50% correction. You're better off to take it real easy if you can. My mom has had revision surgery twice and she's having all kinds of problems. She didn't have scoliosis, but a " broken back " (whatever that was) back in the 60's and had the whole Harrington rod routine. She was " redone " in the 80's when her fusion was failing and now her problems are degenerating discs and scar tissue. She's in her 70's and has a pain pump because they can't operate any more and she has spinal stenosis. These are part of the reasons I refused my first Pgh dr's idea of using Harrington rods 3 years ago and looked elsewhere for Mike. I'm glad I did. His curve was so stiff they put in 3 rods with screws and hooks. His x-rays are impressive! Regards, Marcia

Guest guest
, welcome to the switched side! Glad to hear you're feeling well enough to go to a movie! Sorry about the oozing wound but as long as you're careful, that's usually a minor but annoying complication. Keep us posted! Tracey > Hi friends, > Had GRDS with Dr. Z on 6/24. Take care. michael q. Guest guest
Hi ; Just married and your e-mail to the group is already in Joanne's name! lol. I noticed that right away and had to chuckle. I'm so glad your doing well. I sure hope everything continues to work out for you. Enjoy your meals and take good care of your wife who's already taken over your e-mail. Just teasing, I hope you know that. Take care, . -- 2 weeks post op Well I am 2 weeks post op and I thought I would give an update. I am eating much better I haven't had to have a fizzy drink to PUSH my food through now for exactly 14 days(But who's counting),My eating gets better DAILY and I am on solids now!!.I had a couple of bad spasms for a couple of days but I have not had one now for 11 days(Again a new record for me).I still need fluids to help my food down but find that either water or hot tea(Something I have been unable to drink for years)helps my food go down.Emotionally I feel GREAT and I am now getting fruit and salads into my body and for the first time in ages I feel my body is getting the nourishment it needs.I have a doctors appointment in the morning to see if I can return to work next week but my job involves very heavy lifting so I think I will need another week to be on the safe side.I am still a little sore but again the excitement of being able to eat and drink just outweigh the pain.To anybody who is a little afraid about surgery I really do know what your going through but you REALLY DO need the surgery to make your life better(I have put up with this for 13 years and have had dilations and a failed Hellers in the past)My surgery was made complicated by the scar tissue I had from previous attempts to rectify "A" and I was 5 hours in surgery and it nearly turned into an open procedure but my doctor(Who I think is a genius)d on and finally got the job done LAP. He told me that my "E" had stretched and that if he had done the operation at an earlier stage it would have been much easier and the results would be even BETTER,So my advice to any of you is to get the surgery done ASAP after being diagnosed,Like I said I have had this now for 13 years(And I was told at first that it was all in my head and that I was an attention seeker!!)So as frightening as surgery is you really will benefit from it. Lastly for now as I told the group before my doctors seem to think that people with "A" Are born with it but it takes something to TRIGGER it off to be full blown "A",What the trigger is they don't seem to know but think that stressful times in some is the trigger. My surgeon was a doctor Barnum who is at the Bristol Royal Infirmary,And has done many Hellers including children(He did one on a 7 year old prior to mine and she is also doing fine).I will gladly answer any questions that any of you have in case I have missed anything out. Guest guest
I wouldn't worry about malnutrition right now. It really takes months and months for that to happen. You typically have at least a year of vitamin stores and in some vits minerals up to a 5 year store. Malnourishment just isn't a concern at this stage of the game. Just keep plugging away... focus on fluids and proteins. On Thu, Apr 8, 2010 at 9:01 PM, Jackie <jackieandgirls24@...> wrote:  I am 2 weeks post op and still not able to get much down. I sip sip sip all day but dont get any where near 64 oz fo fluid. Tried cream of chicken today and three small bites was it. I feel hungry but as soon as I " eat " I feel done. Then today I started to feel like I did a hundred sit ups. Just sore not bad pain. The good news in all this is Ive lost 20 lbs since surgery date but I get so worried that I'm going to get malnurited and at the same time I dont want to push myself to eat or drink more because I dont want to make myself sick. To top it all off everyone at work is comming down w/the stomach flu. I really hope I dont get that. I am such a worrier but at the same time how do you know if something is really wrong?? Guest guest
Hi everyone...just checking in to say I'm two weeks sleeve post op and I'm feeling good. I'm still sipping liquids and can only tolerate small amounts of protein shakes. No solid foods yet. I get tired alot but I'm taking chewable vitamins and chewable iron. I have had no pain at all since I have been home.So far I'm down 30 pounds. This has truly been the best thing I could have done for myself. What an accomplishment! Thanks everyone for your support!!!! :-) Theresa Sleeve date: 7/17/10 343/313/

The first month is the most difficult. Everything you used to do is gone out the door. No more eating big bite and inhaling your food. You will never guzzle a bottle of water again--and that is ok. You will continue to sip liquid for quite awhile. In time you will be able to take a regular swallow of water. Don't panic over the Protein. As you start the 2nd month and will be eating some small amount of protein--about 2 oz at one time if you can get it down and you will be much better off. Just remember what we all have been telling you this is a relearning process. When you start on foods you will have to remember to eat tiny baby bites and chew and chew and chew. That has to be the most difficult part of this entire relearning process. If you take too big a bite you will know that you have and if you don't chew it enough, you will feel like it is stuck, don't panic it will slide down, but just put your fork down and relax if you can and let it slide down. Almost two years later I still remind myself to take small bites and chew. You will always be the last one finished eating and that is good, sometimes I just got tired of chewing and would push my plate away and stop eating because it was taking me awhile to eat. You are so right when you say this is the best thing you have ever done for yourself. You are worth the $$$ you spent and the time it is going to take you to get to your goal. Remember there are times when you will stall and not lose any weight, this is very normal too. I went for 9 days and didn't lose anything in the first 2 months. When this happens for you just keep eating how you were eating and I promise you that you will start to lose again. We are always here for you some ask anything questions you might want to ask. 30 pounds is fabulous, you go girl and before you know it, you will be telling us that you have lost 60 pounds. Guest guest
Hi Jana, I did the liquid vitamins and the chewable. It just depends on what you like best for you. Remember the first month you will be doing mostly liquids. So there should be no problems with a BM--remember liquid in liquid out. When I started my second month I started taking MiraLax everyday. I put it in my protein drink and drink it every morning in my protein drink. It has no taste and dissolves easy. I wouldn't add any extra iron that tends to constipate you. The Iron the you get in the vitamins is just fine. Suzanne
