Suzanne,Thanks for sharing.  Another thing I appreciate when traveling is no longer having the embarassment of asking for a seat belt extender.  Also, being able to move a bit in the tiny seats and not be wedged in.  I used to constantly battle with the arm rest because my hips kept pushing it up.  Air travel is still not comfortable but at least tolerable.

We are currently in England for the month.  We come over twice a year to visit my husband's father who's elderly.  My husband I both had the surgery almost three years ago, too.  The first two years it was difficult to eat out because we always share meals at home.  This year we noticed that it is more accepted when we ask to share or to take some home with us.  Just like you have found Suzanne, explaining that we just don't eat much is sufficient.

I want to also share why I have been a little quiet on this board and have not been posting much this last month. I have been gone for the last month. Bob and I and spent the last month in Europe. We were pretty busy. Bob and I saw 10 different countries while we were gone. We were on 8 different planes, 1 train, 1 motor coach with a tour guide who was fabulous, and a ship. I have no idea how many hotels we stayed in either. Venice, Italy was my most favorite place we went to. I did have a computer with me and tried to stay caught up. We were on a tour to start with for 18 days and we saw 8 different countries. Then we went on a cruise and we saw 2 more countries.

I knew that I could NEVER eat all that food. So, I took a few bits of each course and left food on my plate that I did NOT eat--they always aked me if everything was OK and didn't I like what they gave me--I would just explain " I don't eat a lot. " I must admit I ate a lot of deserts and had some wonderful candy while I was on vacation. I thought this was a lifelong dream to have a vacation like this and I was going to make the most of it. Believe me I did. I said to myself, I know how to get the weight off that I will gain and when I get home I can get it off. Well, we arrived home yesterday and I bravely got on the scales this morning to see what my damage was. I got very excited when I looked down and saw that I had LOST 3 pounds while I was gone. We did a LOT of walking, so that is what saved me. The reason I am telling you this is that I want you to know that life really can be quite normal after losing 105 pounds. I have kept it off and that is the very best part. I eat healthy, and I continue to exercise.

If you are sitting out there reading this and wondering " should I do this—have WLS or should I try another diet on my own? " My answer to you is that you will NEVER have one regret if you go ahead and have WLS. Please go for it, and Dr. Aceves is the very best surgeon that you could ever find to do your surgery. Dr. Aceves gave me the tool to lose the weight and it took me doing my part we are a very successful team together. It takes effort and work on your part after Dr. Aceves gives you your tool.

Hi Joyce,

I hear all the things you are saying. I loved England when we were there. All I saw was London, and we had beautiful sunny weather. I understand that they get quite a bit of rain. Everyone was so very nice to us when we were there. We share a lot of meals too. There always seems to be way too much for one person to eat.

I know that most American's consume LARGE amounts of food when they eat. The serving size they give you when you go out to it is way toooooooooooo much for any person. No wonder we got fat!

Have a great trip and enjoy yourself.

Hugs,

Suzanne
