Guest guest
Even after 1 year and 7 months my band still confuses me some...I said in my other posts that I need an unfill BUT I was able to eat at lunch today. I ate a taco salad (eatable bowl), not all of it but a big portion...I'd say 3/4 of it...So do I need an unfill? At nights is my problem, waking up choking? I thought that was a sign of being to tight but could something else be my problem? Yesterday I made sure I didn't eat or drink after 6 PM to see if that helped with the choking at night but nope, if anything it was worse... Any suggestions from anyone would be appreciated... Thanxs...Rena Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Mobile. Try it now.

Guest guest
Rena, When was the last time you had your band x-rayed? Your symptoms are similar to the ones I had last October. My stoma was stretched and at night the food I had eaten was coming up during the night and in the morning in the same form it was in when I swallowed it. My band was too tight and while I was able to eat, it was just staying in the stretched part of the stoma and not passing through the band. If you are having night time reflux and that is waking you up at night and it is a consistent problem, you definitely need to have an x-ray to check out the status of the band and stoma. As Dr. C told me at the time, I was in a pre-slip condition. I struggled with thinking the fill would loosen up for about a month but it never did. Please get with a doctor that can check you out with an x-ray. Just my thoughts and my personal experience talking here. My problem had been aggravated by two rounds of antibiotics and decongestants that irritated my stoma. I just returned from Mexicali last night. I just finished another round of antibiotics and a round of Claritan due to a sinus infection. Guess what, I thought I needed a fill because I was able to eat too much. Well, as it turned out, my stoma is mis-shappened again--not as bad as last time. Thank goodness I already had a fill trip planned. I am now on liquids and mushies and soft foods and I need a check-up again in six weeks. I am now 19 months out and only have 0.4 cc in my 4 cc band. I got a little unfill. One of these days, I am going to find a sweet spot and get back on a loosing track. I sure hope that you feel better soon and that Jim gets a better deal the next time he goes for a fill. Guest guest
, Dr. A. & Dr. C. x-rayed me when we were there for Jim's surgery Feb. 16th, they x-rayed me on the 17th. They said all looked fine and that I did not need a fill...That was 8 weeks ago...I've not had this reflux problem before getting this fill that is why I assumed I was to tight...I'm hoping that is the case and it's loosening up some now...I'll be sure to watch it and if it doesn't improve I'll go get x-rayed by Dr. or Garwood... Guest guest
I know what you mean about confussing me. I ate today and I celebrate the daysI can eat. How do know know yor sweet spot? Is your sweet spot when you dont get hungry, can eat a little bit and NOT PB? I PB alot. Maybe I am eating too much? I start to want to throw up after a few bites and sometimes even with soup..I get stuck with like Corn Chowder or Clam Chowder. But why can I eat some pastas and not others? I am afraid of eating lettuce, got stuck once and will neve have a hamburger again with this band. That was painful. I will miss that as the smell kills me at the baseball park all summer. I could survive I guess with the band this tight, but eating is not enjoyable at all anymore. I love the taste of food more than ever now..savor it. But the experience is not good. I dine out with co workers alot and they know that I will most likely visit the bathroom at least once..PBing. Sometimes I have NSV and make it through the lunch without going there. I just wish I knew if it was me doing somehing wrong or am I too tight? I had a fill in my small band in January and I believe I have lost at least 20 lbs since then?? At least. Guest guest
So good to hear from you. I have a terrible sinus infection and allergies. Got home, felt fine, next day, down for the count. So here goes the soup and jello and apple juice thing. I was so surprised when we ate our evening meal after my fill in Mexicali, they serve a Dr Aceves special of apple juice, chicken broth, hot tea and jello at the restaurant as you walk out the back door to your right. Boy that was right up my alley. Pass this along, it is good to know that they are doing that now for us band-sters. I use the benedryl strips so I don't have to take a chance with a pill coming back up. Either liquids or strips. Would like to KISS the person that thought of that. It is in children's form, but who cares, just take a double dose and away you go. Haven't had much of an appetite, and the scales show it. another 2 pounds, yippie.....ok, I have to have a good mind set on this one and enjoy the liquid diet again. It really seems to help.. Guest guest
Rena, that is good to hear. The reflux and loss of a good night's sleep gets very old over time. I'm glad things are getting better for you. You have had such great success. I'm very happy for you. Keep us tuned in. I went to Mexicali last week and my pouch is a little mis-shappened again. I'm on liquids/mushies/soft foods for about six weeks. Can you believe I am 19 months out and right now I have .4 cc in my 4 cc band. I had 2.1 last October and every time I get sick and have to take antibiotics and decongestants for my sinus infections, my band goes loppy-doodle on me. I am still sick and stuffed up but I am trying to tough it out and get well on my own. Oh, well, at least I"m thinner, my blood counts are better, lower lipid counts, and I'm feeling and looking better in my smaller clothes. Have a great weekend! Guest guest
Hi I just got back from Mexicali and Carla and I were really surprised at what we found out! I thought I was right where I needed to be but just wanted a checkup to see that all was well. I have lost about 8 lbs. in the last 2-3 weeks just by adjusting my attitude! Well, I found out my pouch is slightly stretched and Dr. C put me on liquids for 10 days (And he told me tequila, vodka, wine, etc,etc didn't count!!!!!LOL). Carla thought she needed a fill since she has been gaining for awhile. We left on Thursday and the longer we were gone the worse she started feeling and was PBing almost every bite she took--she was scared she had done something really bad and the band had slipped. Well, she found out her only problem was a too tight fill and as soon as it was loosened she felt great AND her hunger was gone and her pouch is about half the size of mine! She had not had fluoro since her first fill 2 1/2 years ago but now she will ALWAYS go back to Dr. A.and Dr. C. Dr. C explained that when too tight and PBing it leaves you hungry, but when you have the right fill you eat until satisfied--even if it is only 2 bites and you are fine. Also her reflux is gone. When too tight that is when heartburn, reflux, choking, etc. happens. If you have that it usually means you need a small unfill. Well, I'm not happy about the lipuid diet but I sure am going to follow it and try to shrink my pouch after I compared mine to Carla's!! I hope all is well for you and that your adjustments work out. I am worried I will gain some of my hard earned weight lost back on liquids but maybe it will work out for the better in the end. Sorry we missed you by a couple days Best Wishes, Penny in Colorado > > Rena, When was the last time you had your band x-rayed? Your symptoms are similar to the ones I had last October. Guest guest
I am having the same problem.. I throw up almost every time i eat and only eat a few bites. I am trying to hang in another month before i go on vacation and then i was thinking of getting a total unfill and see what happened. I rarely eat just because of how it makes me feel. I was fine for a long time, but now it is not enjoyable. I drink smoothies to try and work through it to get something in my stomach. It has not been enjoyable the past 2 months. Of course i have lost weight , but i dont want to do it this way. Sometimes i am so frustrated because nothing goes down and the pain i feel is not worth it. I am sorry you are feeling this way, but also glad to hear that i am not the only one..I thought i was also doing something wrong. But i tried the juice of cup of noodles while out the other day and I had to get it out of my body too.. I wish you luck. I am going to go and try the unfill and see what happens. ' Best of luck to you.. Guest guest
Sandy, If you don't mind me asking, how long have you had the band? How many fills & unfills and where. What are you filled to right now. I know everyone is different, so they tell me, but I like having the information so that if I start experiencing something, I'll know what I need to do. Guest guest
NO problem, I got the surgery in august. August 21st, I had my first fill in October and was feeling pretty good at that point. I felt great until December and then i started to get sick when i ate. I am not sure why..lol...I then went down in February 15th and checked the band out..Dr Campos said it looked great, perscribed Nexium and I asked him to take some out. He said he didnt think i needed it but did. I had 1.2 put in the first fill and then he took out .5. So at this time i have .7 in. Granted I am almost to goal weight, but this past few months has not been a good ride..lol...I do have a good day about once every 10 days..and wow i feel good... I am having problems again with not being able to eat..I tried a salad with cottage cheese last night..and it came up.. I wake up coughing and gurgling and running to the bathroom sometimes to get out what i have in. I am going to go down again in a few weeks and get a total unfill just to see what happens and to check my band out. I started at 222, am now at 153 and my goal was 150 but now it is 140...lol.... Funny thing is , is that everyone is different. And my band was great and I am not sure what changed it, because it was a few months after the fill that it changed. I am not eating bad foods , If i can eat i try the laughing cow cheese and crackers, a salad, a bite of chicken, a peice of cheese. I know it will all work out.. I keep saying hang in there Sandy you are almost to goal.. I usually can't eat anything for breakfast, trying water right now..and hoping it will stay down. anyway hope this tells you a bit and if any other questions please ask me. Sandy Re: [Dr-Aceves-bandster s] I'm soooooooo confused...>>>>>>>> Even after 1 year and 7 months my band still confuses me some...I saidin my other posts that I need an unfill BUT I was able to eat at lunchtoday. I ate a taco salad (eatable bowl), not all of it but a bigportion...I' d say 3/4 of it...So do I need an unfill? At nights is myproblem, waking up choking? I thought that was a sign of being to tightbut could something else be my problem? Yesterday I made sure I didn'teat or drink after 6 PM to see if that helped with the choking at nightbut nope, if anything it was worse...>> Any suggestions from anyone would be appreciated. ..>> Thanxs...Rena>> Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Mobile. Guest guest
I have the same experience. My last fill was over a month ago and I still can't eat anything. Most days I can barely eat fliuds. I'm sticking with it, because I have almost a year invested, besides the money. On rare occcasions, I can eat a little. I have found i can sometimes eat if I am very relaxed and eating with family or friends. I do better if I have hot tea 10 minutes before I eat. It seems to relax the fluid in my band. Burson <burson.carrie@...> wrote: Sandy, If you don't mind me asking, how long have you had the band? How many fills & unfills and where. What are you filled to right now. I know everyone is different, so they tell me, but I like having the information so that if I start experiencing something, I'll know what I need to do. Guest guest
Exactly , It is the fluids that bother me most. I did go to the dr here to make sure i was getting nutrients. All my labs came back normal. so just bearing with it for now. Yes those days when i can eat with out pain are rare , but fantastic...lol...I can seem to get smoothies down most times. but i do have to even work through that. I will try hot tea...thanks...
