Dear Ann,

I am so thrilled for you that you are finally going to have the operation you so richly deserve, for waiting so patiently and being such a rich source of help, humor and compassion on this Board. We all love you (me, in particular ), and look forward that with each passing day that its one less day to go for the day this operation returns your life style back to normal. You have truly been an inspiration to all of us!

Love,

Great news Ann!!

Out of curiosity, how long has it taken to get this date?

(between seeing specialist/surgeon and now)

I see the specialist/surgeon on the 30th for the first time down here in

Bournemouth.

Hi ,

I had my last endoscopy on November 30th. It was performed by the surgeon who will be doing the myotomy. So it has taken six months to get this date. It could be better for you in Bournemouth. As far as I am aware it is down to finances. Our local authority has had to wait for the new financial year to start to be able to do the next batch of non-urgent operations. Also if you have private health insurance, it would be a lot sooner. When you go on the 30th, ask him how long the waiting list is. Are you coming on Saturday?

Dear ,

This is going to sound like a rather serious way for me to talk. I know that you are all used to me being light-hearted, daft, uninformed - choose your own adjective. But I cannot stop thinking about your words. Most of us have to die before we get words of tribute with so much feeling as this, and isn't that fact so very sad? What good are those words to you then? So this is just a reminder to everyone to tell somebody special that you love them and what a difference they have made in your life. I feel very humbled by your message and am deeply moved by your words.

And thank you to Ed. I know you have been through so much and your words of support are so valuable to me.

In fact I will be ending this day very very thankful for the good people in my life. I will stop typing now because I can hardly see what I am writing through the tears.

From an emotional and grateful Ann in England XXXXXXXXXXXXX> >> >> > Dear all my friends,> >> > I have just received a letter from Huddersfield Royal Infirmary to say> > that I will be admitted on Monday 29th May.> >> > Love from Ann xxxx> >>

Dear Ann,

I find it so interesting that people have perceptions of themselves that sometimes differ so much from how their friends perceive them. While I truly appreciate your heartfelt words in your last message, I can't seem to get past some of the words you use to describe yourself.

For instance: "daft." Now don't go starting a Revolution over what I am going to say next, but since we Americans don't usually use that word, I had to enlist the help of an online Thesaurus to assist me.

116 Moby Thesaurus words for "daft": abnormal, absurd, apish, asinine, batty, bedlamite, befooled, beguiled, bereft of reason, besotted, boneheaded, brainless, brainsick, buffoonish, cockamamie, cockeyed, crackbrained, cracked, crazed, crazy, crazy about, credulous, cretinous, daffy, dazed, deluded, demented, deprived of reason, deranged, dim-witted, disoriented, distraught, dizzy, dopey, doting, dumb, fat-witted,fatuitous, fatuous, flaky, flighty, fond, fool, foolheaded, foolish, fuddled, futile, gaga, giddy, goofy, gulled, hallucinated, idiotic, imbecile, imbecilic, inane, inept, infatuated, infatuated with, insane, irrational, kooky, loco, loony, lunatic, mad, mad about, maddened, manic, maudlin, mazed, mental, mentally deficient, meshuggah, moon-struck, moronic, non compos, non compos mentis, nonsensical, not all there, not right, nuts about, nutty, obtuse, odd, of unsound mind, off, psycho, queer, reasonless, ridiculous, sappy, screwy, senseless, sentimental, sick, silly, slow-witted, stark-mad, stark-staring mad, strange, stupid, sweet on, tetched, thoughtless, touched, unbalanced, unhinged, unsane, unsettled, unsound, wacky, wandering, weak-minded, wet, witless.

Apparently you chose a word that means a lot of things to a lot of people, but for the life of me, I don't think any of these words apply to you (except maybe one of them, that has 5 letters and starts with a "w.")

And then there is the word "uninformed." Now that's a word I can understand, but what I can't understand is why you think of yourself that way. I've read all your posts, and sometimes (and especially in one recent post), you almost sound like a doctor talking! For a person who hasn't had a Heller yet, you come off sounding most knowledgeable. Why I'd be willing to bet that some of the newbies here (until your announcement today), probably thought that you already had the surgery!

Returning to the subject of your last message, at funerals, you hear eulogies of how incredibly wonderful the person who died is, but if you happen to really know that person, chances are you know what BS it is that you are listening to. If everyone was as wonderful as their eulogies proclaim, we'd be living in so much of a better world!

You left us with a very special message, Ann, about telling people who you love, or who have made a special difference in your life how much they mean to you, while they are alive.

We should all follow that advice, you "light-hearted, daft, uninformed," angel of the Achalasia Board!

Love,

Hey Group,

Ive been lurking here for a while and really enjoy reading all the posts but I

just talked with Nina yesterday and I finally have a date!! June 8th. I know it

is pretty far in advance (Nina says I get the record for the most preplanning

since Ive been talking to her since last year) but my husband is a firefighter

and I am a nurse and our schedules are made out sooo far in advance. Plus I

wanted my kids to be out of school so Mom can watch them and needed my tax

refund to help pay. But now I'm ready. Ive booked my flight and trying to get

passports in order. My freakin passport expires in April, why couldnt it have

been a few more months. Arghhh. Oh well, I'll send them in and pray theyre back.

Anyone know how long it takes for a passport renewal? I'm just so excited now.

Waiting to be sleeved,

You can't go wrong with Dr. A and team! They are the best and you won't regret one moment! Everyday, I am so thankful for my surgery and finally taking that step to get my life back! Especially with children, I have so much more energy and can go places and do things with them and enjoy myself more! I can have pictures taken and don't shy away from the camera like I used to because I hated the way I looked.

In has been a blessed journey of rediscovering myself and getting a new lease on life!

Congratulations and good luck! Keep us posted!

Warmly,

Gail

Hi ,

First of all congratulations on getting this done. I got a brand new passport 2 weeks after I applied for it in my home of Eugene, OR. I did that last summer in about July, and they said there wasn't much of a waiting period anymore. So I would think you will have it in at least 3 weeks. So you are one of the lurker's--that was me too for quite awhile. I just sat back and watched what people were posting and made a list of questions that I had. I finally jumped in with my questions.

I have to say this is an excellent site for support. No matter what you ask someone will have an answer for you. Sometimes it isn't what you want to hear, but I feel that it is honest and that is what counts. Now you can count down the days before you go to have the surgery. Keep all of us posted as you get closer and if you have any questions.

Take care,

Suzanne

I am working as a passport acceptance agent in my city job, the turn around time right now is less than 3 weeks. Hope that helps.

Thank you all for the replies. I know I will have more questions as the time

gets closer and I know it will be here before I know it. I have hinted around at

work about WLS but I dont think I will tell anyone. I work night shift and

several of my friends are overweight and I just dont want any judgement from

them. My husband and my parents are very supportive but I'm not going to tell

anyone else in my family. People are so quick to pass judgement even if I tell

them this is something I have been researching for the better part of 2 & 1/2

years b/c I started out looking at the lapband. And I know there is a big

possibility I could loose some of my friends but that will be b/c they have yet

to face their food demons and past. I also know I can come here for support and

honesty and I look forward to future discussions.

Sincerely,

I told nobody about getting WLS and I am very glad I dident say anything. It saved me from explaning my personal decision to everybody that's not educated on wls and listening to their uneducated opinions and judgements. have lost 70 lbs since 12/4/08 and I just tell peaple that I eat under 1000 calories daily and excercise daily and up my protein supplements. Its all true but the WLS was for me not everybody else. Maybe 1 day when I'm at my goal I may say something but for now I do not want to be under everybodys microscope. That's just the way I fell bout it. Thank you. Hi ,

Very well said. It is truly about taking control of your life and planning for good health for the rest of your life. Be aware that you will hear people say things like "my doctor won't allow me to have WLS." or "my doctor doesn't think that is the right thing for me to do." --that is a bunch of crap--they haven't faced the fact that they haven't been or won't be successful at losing the weight. They are hiding behind these statements! This has nothing to do with your doctor this has to do with what is right for you. Your doctor is there to ADVISE your not RULE you. I always say talk with your doctor about what you are going to do, ask if they are willing to be there for you when you come home after the WLS. It is wise to have blood tests to see how your body is doing. You need your meds checked because at some point they will start taking you off a lot of your meds. I was very lucky to have a doctor who was very supportive of me and has be very helpful to me every step of the way.

For your friends, they will either be there for you or they will not say a thing because they are so envious of what you have done and will continue to do. This will be about you and your good health. Not anyone else.

Take care,

Suzanne
