Guest guest
Hi Suzie, For me having a drink just wasn't worth it. It is a lot of empty calories. But, I am sure that there are people out her who have a drink or two now and then, so I am sure someone can tell you how them manage it. Have fun, Suzanne In a message dated 1/20/2010 9:45:33 P.M. Guest guest
I have always really enjoyed a good glass of wine. About 6 weeks after VSG surgery I asked Dr. A about it. Although he didn't encourage it, he did say it would not harm me as long I did not overdo it and considered the empty calories was I adding from the wine. I started very carefully and always included the calories in my daily total. A little over a year later and I now feel comfortable having an occasional social glass of wine with friends. Of course, it takes me a long time to finish one glass (sometimes I can't finish it) while my friends have a couple. Some people choose to splurge on an sweet treat every now and then; I instead choose to have a glass of wine. As with anything, just don't go crazy. Guest guest
Actually, Dr. Campos told our group that it would be wise if we never drank again. He said that maybe an occasional wine would be ok but more than that would be bad. Alcohol metabolizes into sugar when it goes into the body. When you drink alcohol it is in essence like eating a a bunch of sugar. This sort of defeats the purpose of the sleeve. It is to restrict the amount of food but alcohol being a liquid does not get restricted, it goes straight through. Also, we all know of course what happens to us now when we ingest something that has a lot of sugar or carbohydrates, we get a bit of an upset stomach. That could happen with alcohol. Personally, the only alcohol I drink is wine used for spiritual purposes when I practice my religion (communion). I have been to a few parties in which they gave us a free drink ticket and I gave mine to my new girlfriend that I have now gotten after the surgery (It is amazing how this surgery changes your life both externally and internally, I had not had the confidence to ask a women out in over ten years, now I have a lady that is the most nicest person you will every meet who happens to be extremely attactive. It is not that being attractive is a necessary thing, it is what is inside that counts, this girl just happens to be very attractive.) > > Hey guys I have another question... Guest guest
I'm sure that you probably shouldn't drink as it does just add empty calories which nobody needs, however, I do drink....wine. My husband and I really enjoy wine, we study about it, we collect it and we drink it. I've lost 75 pounds in 7 months and I've had wine since about the 2nd week post-op. You just have to count the wine calories into your mix. We also just came back from a 15 day cruise during which we were served gourmet (rich) food with wine; we did many wine tasting tours and wine/food pairing dinners. I lost 4 pounds during the cruise without exercise. I couldn't ever eat much so no gain. What can I say - the sleeve rocks. Just my 2 cents on the subject. > > > > Hey guys I have another question...
