Guest guest
Well I have the new surgery date, Tuesday March 23rd at Noon (maybe earlier in the day). I'm glad to hear you have a new date, but it's too bad it's so far away and you had to reschedule all your other plans! But I guess the Polly in me would have to say "It's good that it wasn't YOU that was having the emergency surgery that day!" )We'll be sending vibes for "no more delays" between now and the 23rd!!!Deb

Guest guest
Congratulation Larry. Luckily you having it in your own city otherwise you would be going nutty trying to get airline, place to stay, etc. in another State or Province. I was told it might be one year, so I decided to do some projects, then get an email saying it will be in four months. Talk about running around, booking at the hospital Residence, booking airline there and back, planning for 10 days stay, making sure my Intevenor was available. Thanks heaven these wonderful people here help me out. I sure hate to see what happen if I only had two weeks noticed. I think I would have been one nutty as a fruit cake dolphin. Guest guest
Larry, Birds can make you nuts if you listen to them long enough. Don't they EVER shut up?? On the other hand, you won't have A CI moment, you will have a life time full of them. I've been implanted 12 years and still have CI moments when I hear something for the first time, recognize it and go " Wow, a CI moment " . The other night I was babysitting 2 kids who decided to be as rotten as possible. After hitting me, they each got to go to their bedrooms, and stay in their beds. So they kicked the headboards nons stop and screamed at the top of their lungs. I turned my processor down as low as it would go, and when that wasn't low enough, I turned it off. I sat in the hallway between the rooms where I could watch both of them and NOT have to listen to them. There are decided advantages to having hearing you can turns OFF as well as ON. Good luck, ____________________________________________________________ Orlando Vacations - Click Here! http://thirdpartyoffers.juno.com/TGL2141/fc/Ioyw6i3nK7vDN3DHlaZMUFwOMg1JNZvOzxmk\ Z1SWiLNhJUIaicurJp/

Not that I have never found myself doing the same thing when trying to do something out of the ordinary but often found that just simply doing it was the most reasonable option. Well 2 weeks and you will be one more step closer to realizing hearing again. Guest guest
Thanks for your comments, . But I may have jumped the gun on scheduling. It seems I'm required to have a physical (complete with EKG and a pregnancy test?) within 30 days of surgery and my local walk-in clinic doesn't provide all the tests they require. I've been under general anesthesia 3 times in my life with no problems. Seems like an excessive requirement for surgery. If I can't get it all taken care of in time, looks like I'll have to postpone surgery. I'd hate to have to do that. Maggie > > Maggie, > Maybe some of us will be flies on the wall at your activation. Guest guest
Having a pre-op physical is standard for pretty much any surgery. Although I'm surprised they threw in a pregnancy test, too, it's just one more blood test among the others required. My clinic required my pre-op physical to occur within a week of surgery to ensure that the labs and EKG were current, however, so you're lucky to have a month to provide yours. Guest guest
I'm hoping they won't ask ME if I'm pregnant, or insist upon a pregnancy test. Too funny. While at a doctor's office I was reading about a vaccine that will help you avoid shingles. Anyone who had chicken pox as a child has the virus in their body, and if you get infected again, often it appears as shingles (and not the kind on your house). It's a very painful disease, that often causes a lot of neurological pain, and scarring, and many times doesn't go away. So they were encouraging anyone over 60 to get this shot. However, they said, " If you are pregnant, or planning to become pregnant....don't get the shot " I'm thinking, " who in their right mind would want to get pregnant over age 60 anyway? " Maybe that woman who is shooting out a kid a year - getting ready for number 19, and her oldest is 21will still be doing the wild thing at 60, but most sane women won't. Ted, in order to qualify for a pregnancy test, you also have to have a mammogram. Can't just call discrimination unless you undergo what women do yearly. Makes me wish I was less well endowed. I didnt have to do a pregnancy test :-) Its discrimination. Guest guest
It looks like my surgery date, for bilateral implantation with the new Freedom 5 will be Monday, the 14th. Busiest weekend of my life. Have a craft show on Saturday and Cleveland Browns opening day game on Sunday. But wanted to schedule between games, so I have a couple weeks to recover. They phoned today to ask what color processor I wanted. Choices are black, charcoal grey, white, and sand. What kind of choices are those? Where is purple? Where is silver? Then you could get a side panel with soccer balls. How about FOOTBALLS. Oh, they don't play that in Oz. Sigh. However, the standard package is 2 processors, and you get a choice of 2 of the Freedom 5s or one Freedom 5 and one regular Freedom. I'm going for broke and getting the 2 new ones. The rechargeable battery option hasn't been FDA approved yet, but I've always used disposable batteries. They no longer shave half your head, which is good since I just had highlights put in last week. You can wash your hair the next day, just put antibiotic cream on before and after. Driving the next day is OK. Way different from when I got the N24 13 years ago. I will be staying overnight (23 hours) since the Dr. doesn't want me coming home alone. Have a ride to the surgery center, now have to see who is willing to drive across town to pick me up the next day. So wish me luck, and I'll let people know how it goes. ____________________________________________________________ Information Technology Earn Your IT Degree From Home. Apply to Top Colleges Now.
