Robyn,

The major thing I learned was.... I didn't need a lot of stuff post op. I went out and bought all this food & drinks thinking that I'd have it right there ready for when I was starving.

You won't be starving. You will need some chicken soup (I bought regular campbell's chicken noodle soup; cooked it and drained off the liquid). I added some unjury chicken soup protein to it (which I premixed with a little water to prevent clumping). I had jello (didn't really worry about sugar free during healing stage, as I needed the calories), popsicles (sugarfree), crystal light or k20 water. That's about all I lived on for the first 10 days. Oh, and I got Centrum silver chewable vitamins and a pill crusher for my other meds. The next 10 days I added my protein shakes which I doctored up a bit w/ ff/sf instant pudding mix for added flavor.

Check w/ your pharmacy about any time released medicines you might need to have switched. Take your medicines with you so you can show them to Dr.Aceves, Dr.Campos,or Dr. .

Hope this helps.

[Dr-Aceves-bandster s] Question @groups. comDate: Wednesday, July 2, 2008, 2:07 PM

And so I too have embarked on the life changing journey of weightloss. I have a sleeve date /w/ Dr. Aceves on August 5th Is anyone joining me on that date? I'd love to meet you.

I have been a member of this group and began researching weightloss surgery in April 2005. I was unaware that there was a procedure called 'the sleeve', so I only researched 'the band'. Well I have to thank the powers that be because had I not been fired from my job and lost my health insurance, and then later denied insurance from private and corporate insurance companies then I would would not be where I am now ..... on my way to getting a sleeve.

I can say I am glad I sold my stocks *which were supposed to have been for my retirement* to get the money for the surgery, however, honestly , I doubt that if I woud have continued to do nothing about my health, * or lack there of* then I would not make it to retirement age.

Ohh anyway sorry about my ramblin' on my question is....

I am getting my duckies in a row and need to know what I'll be needing post op.

Please be very detail orentied!

,

I’m concerned /w/ constipation, and worry

about hair loss afterwards, I know, sounds funny but. Oh I do have a thought to

throw out there….

I am / have always been the nice

sweetheart fat girl, always helped out and offered to do everything for others…

way before anything for myself, but what I want to know is, we all know that

attitudes change as we become skinny, but my Q is have any of you who have

become skinny… did you change and become meaner/ less willing to put up

/w/ peoples b*llsh*t. I know I will not be afraid to voice my opinions more as

my head and body adjust to e/o. I honestly don’t want to see my self

become a bi*ch, but I can see me doing it. *if

that makes sense*

Don't know... haven't got skinny yet.

I pretty much think people remain true. You might not put up w/as much BS as you have in the past, but it won't change your kindness and caring attitude for others. At least those that I know that have had WLS it hasn't changed them. If anything it has made them more eager to help others.

But as far as BS... I don't really put up with it now and won't then. I do bite my lip / tongue more now than I use to, but I think that has to do w/age not weight.

Robyn,From one skinny girl to the soon to be next skinny girl - I haven't turned into a mean person :) I have never been mean and can't ever imagine becoming mean. Oh, that doesn't mean I don't have an opinion on things but rest assured skinny doesn't equal mean.It never sounds funny to worry about the side effect of surgery...very valid questions. It seems to be the trend that if you are losing your hair after surgery, you should get a short hair cut, I'm not talking about shaved :) Just shorter :) I have heard from so many of us gals that had major hair loss problems, that just trimmed it up and went for a shorter do and it worked miracles. I went from long (about at my shoulder blades) to a little longer than chin length and it was exactly what I

needed. I believe you are getting a sleeve, so I can't help w/the constipation question as I have a band, but I eat fiber tablets and drink fiber in my water and I don't have any constipation issues at all, I have a perfect little poop everyday :) (OK that might fall under T.M.I)On that note, good luck and keep asking questions. Robyn I just wanted to say that if anything I'm nicer now because I feel better about myself. I was nice before too, but it is easier to be nice now. I don't feel so self conscious. Also, I did loose hair, but I wasn't taking vitamins faithfully or getting 70 g of protein. I now take all of hat plus hair and nail nioxin suppliments and I use Nioxin shampoo. I cut off more than 12 inces of hair and it stopped falling out. It was like losing my security blanket, but now I realize I don't need it. I know it's scary, but life will be so much better. I think we are all in control of how we handle the sucess and act towards others....

I think I was nice because I always felt I was not as good as others because I was overweight so I tried to be liked because of my actions.

Because lets face it this world judges you on your looks/weight (handsome or pretty).

So that is what we become ok with and what we accepted. Boy was I so wrong.

I was kind to overweight people because I was one and even though I have lost weight, I don't forget in my mind I could still be fat.....

I just choose to do something to change me... Cause we will never change the world silly ideas about overweight people.

I think I have become more tolerant of people because I have been there done that and know it takes more to be kind and understanding than judgmental and rude.

People do treat you different when your not overweight that is what we have done as a society - we need to teach our children to accept everyone for their heart.

When people say something negative to me about someone's weight I say " I never noticed they were overweight" , I think he/she is overweight because they are so kind and loving that God gave them a big heart so they need a bigger body to carry such a good /large heart filled with love and kindness

That will stop them in their tracks I assure you. Makes them get the point...
