You have made a good decision. I was sleeved Oct. 1st, and by the grace of GOD, had no complications and am doing well. You can comfortably walk around the hallway where your room is located after surgery. The hospital is very comfortable...small, yet very roomy. You will have plenty of support at the hospital as well. The doctors make 3-5 rounds a day, plus the ratio of nurses to patients is great!

Hi ,

Here is what the doctor's office sent me about traveling to Mexico.

It confirms that you will need your birth certificate in addition to

the state ID. Getting into Mexico is easy but you certainly won't

feel up to being hassled trying to get back into the States.

From Dr Aceves office:

" If you are a US citizen you don't need any documentation to get into

Mexico. To get back into the US you will need an identification

(driver's license) that identifies you as a US citizen plus your

driver's license. "

I look forward to hearing more about your experience. I'm scheduled

for the sleeve on December 1.

I am from Rockwell. It is a small town just east of Salisbury. My husband drives a truck locally and comes down to Lumberton a lot, so I am very familiar with you area! Nice to meet a local person.Thanks to everyone for the information. Any further advice would be welcome

is because my husband has also hauled to Lumberton.

i am right across the VA border (about 30 Miles).

My surgery is scheduled for Nov. 22, for my 55th birthday.

. Take your birth certificate and photo id (drivers license). I believe after January 09 you will be required a passport so I would urge any of Dr. A's patients who may travel back and forth to get one. Pack light: a change of clothes - two at most. pjs or robe and slippers, underwear, toothbrush, toothpaste (wee little tube), deodorant (wee little stick), comb and brush, any makeup you want in a small 1 qt. plastic bag. Remember that your hair spray, shampoo, etc. should be in no more than a 2.5 oz. container. I encourage you to pack lightly, use a small carry-on suitcase with wheels BECAUSE ERNESTO OR JUAN NEED TO LEAVE THE SAN DIEGO AIRPORT BY 11 A.M. If you are arriving a day early, you can check luggage. REMEMBER, after surgery, you have to carry that "stuff" back to the airport. It is just so much EASIER to use a small carry on size piece of luggage. You may bring any meds that you usually take. Speak with Dr. A and Dr. C about those and how you should medicate yourself after surgery. They need to know your med and dosage amount to adequately advise you. Some people take the dissolvable GAS-X strips. I did not, nor did I need them. It is a good insurance to have them in the event you suffer from gas pain after surgery.

I have heard of others that have brought along their own heating pad. I'm not a heating pad user but some have been comforted by that post surgery. You will need to do some walking after surgery, which can be accomplished through the hospital hall ways. It helps your circulation and your post gas issues. I walked a lot and would swing my arms around too to get all that surgical gas out of me. Feel free to toot your horn as you move along, it will make you feel better. You will want to get around and speak with the other patients and visit. All will be well! We promise!

LIST:pillow--feather one so easily molded to abdomen (in my opinion a must)

heating pad (also a MUST)

pack small snack in bag for day you arrive--you are fasting and starving and can eat after lab drawn (did not know this and WISH I did)

meds: chewable gas X, chewable Tylenol,

blistex

earplugs (in case hallway noisy)

comfy cotton panties

three pairs cotton capri loose sweat pants

large tshirts

tankini bra--no underwire--and loose (tank top with built in shelf bra)

toiletries

socks

slippers (grip bottom if possible)

camera

broth packet (one)

hot tea bags (two or so) (gate 29 at San Diego airport has starbucks to get hot water for trip home)

lap top/ipod/book

$25-30 of single one dollar bills for tipping (Ernesto and hotel guys)

pen and paper or journal to write new friend info!

I would also call your cell phone carrier and upgrade to an international plan to avoid big bill then downgrade when you get home
