Guest guest
Yea, Yea, Yea!! I'm so excited for you!!! This is wonderful. I would suggest going to Amazon.com and purchasing Savory Choice Chicken Broth Concentrate, 5.1 Ounce Boxes (Pack of 4) they come in single packets that make one cup of broth, perfect for this situation! I had something like this when I flew home and thank goodness I did, our plane was delayed in Denver and we ended up spending the night, if I hadn't had some type of broth with me, I would have been miserable!!! I just stopped by the Starbucks in the airport and asked for a cup of hot water, the plane has hot water, and the hotel gave me one too the next AM. I used Isopure once I was home, pour it over a big glass of ice and sip it all morning, then in the afternoon, add more ice and Isopure and finish it at the end of the day. I traveled in sweat pants too, I don't remember having a problem with the underware, so don't worry too much about that, just be comfortable-no thongs or anything-LOL LOL I do remember having an issue with my bra, one of my incisions was right at the bra line, I had brought a sports bra so I could be comfortable and man was I glad I did, that was very comfortable on my incision and to this day it is still stained with that iodine "glue" they use Pick up a cheap one at walmart -just in case.Remember to bring a heating pad in your carry on bag. You will want that with you at all times in the hospital and then at the hotel that night, don't chance not getting your luggage and not having a heating pad with you. Someone had mentioned the Tylenol not meeting regulations at the airport, I didn't have any problems getting that in my carry on bag, I just made sure it was in a zip lock baggy. Bring a couple extra baggies in case you need to put medicine in them, you can usually get them at the airport, but better safe than sorry. Also, keep your discharge papers handy in case they question your medicine, you can prove they are required to be with you :)Hope this helps a little and please keep us posted with your progress and questions. Guest guest
Hi eeliegirl, I just got back from Mexicali, and I traveled by air. You can take absolutely everything in your checked-in luggage, including powders in bags and mixes. Just do not put any large amounts of liquids or pastes in your carry-on. I do not know the exact amounts, put they are a few ounces. I would also put medication in your check-in, as I have seen essential meds being confiscated from people by TSA. The weather in Mexicali was on the cool side, perhaps low sixties. I wore a cotton long sleeve shirt, although the locals were dressed heavier. I like it cool. It gets cold at night, because you will be in the desert, but I slept with the window open, and was not cold. Good luck on your surgery, Margaret On 11/26/07, eeliegirl <eelie@...> wrote: omgomgomgomgomgomgomgomg!!!Ok, I'm calm now. ;o)I went to GNC yesterday and got a bottle of Isopure to try and a can of 50 Gram Slam. Baring any problems, I'll be released from the hospital on a Wednesday and will have to stay in night in San Diego and catch my flight the following morning. I won't be getting home until mid afternoon on Thursday.Considering all the hoopla about what can be carried on planes these days, I'm trying to figure out what I can take along that I'll be able to use those first 24-48 hours. I know the Isopure should be on the OK to Eat list but I won't be able to take any of the bottles. I'm also not too sure about taking the powdered mix since it won't be in an original container. I've not seen any security restrictions for something like that but I don't want to chance someone taking issue with bags of unmarked powder. Just my luck me and my little old grey-haired mama would get arrested or something. ;o)I've ordered some of the Unjury sample packs which would eliminate the powder-in-a-bag problem. Is the Unjury on the Ok to Eat list for those first few days? Are there any suggestions y'all can give me that'll cover those first hours? I'm going to be limited in what I will have access to, such as grocery stores and I doubt the hotel will have much by way of acceptable selections.Ok, 'nuff about food. ) What about clothing? I'm thinking for traveling that I'll wear sweatpants. Not glamorous but definitely comfy. Um, not to be indelicate, but what about underwear? Since those fit closer than sweats, will that cause any pressure anywhere it might be uncomfortable?Any other general words of wisdom for those who have traveled this road?I'm sorry...I have to do it again.... omgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomg!!!! Guest guest
Hey Margaret, ) Yeah, just about anything is ok if you check bags. I'm planning on traveling only with carry-ons tho'. I'm going to get a letter from my doctor explaining any drugs, insulin and syringes, my CPAP machine and whatever else I will be taking that's imperative that it go with me. Cyrena posted about the broth concentrate and I've ordered some of that. I figure between that and the few drink things I can get that are in single packs, I should be ok now. ) The day is getting closer!! :oD > > > > omgomgomgomgomgomgomgomg!!! > > > > Ok, I'm calm now. ;o) > > > > I went to GNC yesterday and got a bottle of Isopure to try and a can > > of 50 Gram Slam. Guest guest
Hi , While it is a personal preference to carry-on your luggage, I would still recommend that you check in what is not absolutely essential during a flight emergency. I have not lost luggage in years, and the extra 15 minutes at the luggage carousal are worth the stress some of the TSA people, who think they are Gods, can give you. I dealt with some really rude and obtuse ones. Keep in mind that they do not work for TSA because they are rocket scientists. With doctor's papers and all , they will call a Supervisor from God knows where and hold you up at screening. I do not know what a CPAP machine is, but I checked in lamps, china, computer monitors and the like wrapped in bubble wrap for long international flights with layovers, and not a thing broke. I would just take with me what is absolutely necessary ( e.g. nitroglycerine if I were a heart patient) and pack the rest. Good luck again, Margaret On 11/27/07, eeliegirl <eelie@...> wrote: Hey Margaret, )Yeah, just about anything is ok if you check bags. I'm planning on traveling only with carry-ons tho'. Guest guest
Hey Margaret, ) The CPAP machine is for my sleep apnea. That's definitely going with me on the plane. ) Yeah, I know the percentage of lost luggage is really quite small compared to how many folks actually fly. I'm not really concerned about that. But I tend to travel light and plan to only have one small carry-on anyway. I've been reading up on and printing the applicable sections of TSA's rules about what can be carried on so should I have a problem, I can always give them some reading material. ;o) Now that I have some individual packets of broths and protein drinks coming, I shouldn't have any problem in the food arena. ) And it's not like I'm going to be taking tons of drugs or anything. I will likely check things on the way home tho'. If they don't make it, at least I'm home then. ) > > Hi , > > While it is a personal preference to carry-on your luggage, I would still > recommend that you check in what is not absolutely essential during a > flight emergency. Guest guest
NEVER I mean NEVER pack your prescriptions!!! I made the mistake 2 1/2 years ago, the dummy I am I had filled my "purse" bottle and wrapped the rest in a cool whip container and put it in with my checked luggage. I was so excited about going to my Daughters wedding in Cleveland (I live in California) that like a dummy I wasn't paying attention and threw in my "purse" bottle right in with all the rest of my 'scripts in my luggage. I am on some heavy medications (oxycodone, vicodine, soma, xanax) and when I went to get my evening dosage at the airport, I could not find my "purse"bottle anywhere!!! I paniced (sp?) because I knew I would go into withrdrawl within about 3 hours (our flight was a redeye and left Fresno at 9:00 pm and arrived in Cleveland at 6:45 the next morning. I asked the guys at the desk where your board the plane if they could send someone to get my prescriptions out of my luggage, I was very explicit as to what my luggage looked like and thank God they hadn't loaded them in the cargo hold yet!! I guy from the airline actually went out and got my cool-whip container for me!!! What a guy, I don't know what I would have done if he hadn't. By the way, the airlines all advise to take all your prescriptions with you on your carry-on because they cannot be replaced (especially triplicates which are controlled substances) if your luggage is lost!!! Just a note of warning. You don't really need to take all that much as far as clothing goes, you spend most of your time in your nighty anyway relaxing and watching tv and visiting with other patients who are also in nighties, very easy going hospital. I even joined my husband for dinner pulling my iv bottle thing-a-ma-gig (the one on rollers) in the hospital restaurant! A truly memorable experience! Almost like a mini-vacation! Best to all...Jeanie Uhlik dob 9/14/07 (246/219.2/145or 135) all in 11 weeks time!!! feeling greater than I have in 5 years!!!
Guest guest
, I'm so excited for you, you have a right to be excited also, hope you read the forum most of the time because it has been a complete inspiration to me. I have two suggestions (my experience) for you, I took unjury with me on my carry on, it was only a commuter flight, but I think they are all pretty standard, I ended up giving a bunch to other passengers in the " limo " trip home from Mexicali to San Diego...I swear by the stuff. There are days when I cannot get in enough protein or just do not find anything in the house that satisfies my needs, so I will just mix up a batch (sometimes with a bananna after the first 20 days) and down it goes, problem solved & my energy stays up. You are advised not to do this on a regular basis though because you will eventually have to resume regular eating habits in order to live in the real world. Secondly, I have a friend who had the band exactly 2 years less one day before I had mine, so I got a lot of pointers from her. She suggested, and I was glad she did, that I get a sport bra as sometimes the stitches on your tummy will fall right under the wire supports in your regular bra. I was extremely comfortable on my flight home, though short it was (only 1 hr 10 min) we still had to wait in SanDiego for the flight to leave which was another 5 hours after Ernesto dropped us off. I know you can have the " unflavored and the chicken soup " unjury the first 5 days, beauty is, you can add it to a cup of hot water, just ask for hot tea, with the tea-bag on the side. Or, maybe if they're nice, they will just give you a cup of hot water (just so you don't take crackers and lots of ketchup from the condiments setup...lol) Sorry but that might be a little out-dated, I don't know what movie I saw in on, but years ago I saw one where the guy was destitute and made " tomatoe soup " from the restaurant's ketchup and salt and pepper. Best of luck, post some pictures if you can, you won't regret it. I posted mine like the day I got back from Mexicali, I want the whole world to know how I'm doing, I feel so good and proud of myself after fighting " diets " since the late '60's when if you didn't look like Twiggy you were considered fat - I weighed 113 as a Junior in High School, that's when I joined the yo-yo trap. Sorry this is so long, but I just love to tell people about what a good experience I had and how finally after 40 years of dieting something finally worked out for me!!!! Guest guest
Oh, don't worry. ) I worked for the airlines for 18-odd years and in the industry for a full 20. I have many, many times told people to take their meds out of their checked bags for the "just in case" scenario. No, meds will definitely be with me. ;o) And, yeah, I'm thinking one pair of jeans for the trip out, sweats on the way back and a couple of sleepshirts for the inbetween. Mom had a bright idea for undies---take those that are in need of being retired and just throw them away after wearing. Which, actually, is a pretty good idea! >> NEVER I mean NEVER pack your prescriptions!!! Guest guest
Yup, I've already got a supply of Unjury on hand and have the broth Cyrena suggested on order. I also have some Isopure (which is ok but won't be my favorite) so I should be set for awhile. ) Oh, and I'm probably more outdated than you. ;o) When you said that about not getting crackers and ketchup with the water, I thought of an old I Love Lucy show where she did that in a diner because she didn't have any money. Too funny!! SNORK! Thanks for the suggestions and advise! I'm slowly working towards getting ready for my next life. )

Guest guest
I went to Trader Joes yesterday and they now have individual packets of broth (beef, chicken and vegetable) that they sell for 3.99. There are 12 in the box they sell and the vegetable has 20 Calories per serving(one cup), 360mg sodium. I am just trying the vegetable and it is great. Easy to take with you all you do is add water!
