Guest guest
well I wonder if there is a way to confirm about the actual metabolism part. I mena I know sometimes the lex makes me out and out pass out for like an hour in the day..that or it is all my anxiety has tired my body out into a shut down. it is sooo wierd. I am so anxiety ridden and so tired all at once. So I am not sure that this is an improvement of any kind. - thanks for your response- alison On Thu, 11 Aug 2005 10:39:36 -0500 " Myers " <topmercedes40@...> writes: > The weight gain is supposedly caused for 2 reasons. > > 1. Guest guest
The weight gain is supposedly caused for 2 reasons. 1. People are less stressed and/or depressed so they are wanting to eat more. 2. Others swear that SSRI's slow down your metabolism, which is why a lot of people prefer Wellbutrin - it has neither the sexual side effects or the weight gain cause it acts more as a stimulant. Wellbutrin is not good for most people with anxiety cause we are stressds enough and don't need to be hyped up. Some use ellbutrin and the Lex at the same time to counteract the sex side effects and the weight gain. To me it would seem they would cancel each other out, but who knows. Now I exercise 4-5 days a week for about 45 minutes and even though I haven't had much of an appetite, I do eat. I eat two to three small meals a day. I haven't lost and I haven't gained. I'm probably not losing because in reality with the way I exercise and I'm not eating enough calories and my body thinks it's starving and holding onto fat. Or maybe the Lex really does slow metabolism down and I'm maintaining instead of gaining or losing because I do eat little and exercise lots. Don't get me wrong there our days when hunger suddenly hits me and I need a big ole burger or pizza, but most days I just want some cereal or a small sandwich and can only finish bites at a time. Xanax really kills my appetite too. And I am a weight struggler my whole life. Runs in my family. We are hispanics. What can we do. We're naturally round. >wish the lex would get rid of my appetite. Guest guest
Not to beat a dead horse, but the weight issue lays very heavy in my hands. I've been on Leaxapro 40 mg, Wellbutrin 200 mg twice a day, and Remeron at night. I exercise 3-4 times a week (good exercise, in other words I ache when I'm thru!) and I can not seem to lose any of the 30 lbs I've gained while n these anti-depressants. I eat 6 tiny meals/ day. have stopped eating CHOCOLATE which breaks my heart, and drink at LEAST 8 glasses of water/day. I've asked my Psychiatrist why the weight gain, and he, in his sarcastic way told me not to eat so much. Thanks a bunch, Doc. When I go swimming in one of the pools in my area (I live in AZ), I swear the water level rises 2 inches. Embarrassing? YUP! Any suggestions would be most appreciated. Thanks, Annie in AZ Myers <topmercedes40@...> wrote: The weight gain is supposedly caused for 2 reasons. 1. People are less stressed and/or depressed so they are wanting to eat more. 2. Guest guest
I was advised by both my Psych and doc that remeron can cause weight gain because it affects the body's metabolism, mainly how it processes carbs. I was prescribed remeron as a test for helping with insomnia because of its sedating affect. It works good for sleep but I think the increased dose of Desyrel will be almost as good. So far the lex and desyrel are doing good for me. Bob-o > The weight gain is supposedly caused for 2 reasons. > > 1. Guest guest
I really think SSRI do slow down the metabolism. On our thyroid board they have said that some SSRI's have flouride in them which used to be given to patients who were hyperthyroid to slow down their thyroids. So anyone on SSRI's might benefit from a complete thryoid panel. Including Free T3's and Free T4's RE: Re: drinking alcohol > > > > > > > > > Paxil is the first choice for social anxiety, but my doc started > > me on > > >Lex > > > instead cause Paxil is notorious for its weight gaining side > > effect and > > >I'm > > > very conscious about my weight. Guest guest
You are doing everything right: exercise 3-4 times a week (good exercise, in other words I ache when I'm thru!) - maybe up it to 4-6 times - be sure to weight train. you probably know that. I mis aerobics with weights - Firm and Cathe videos. " I eat 6 tiny meals/ day. have stopped eating CHOCOLATE which breaks my heart, and drink at LEAST 8 glasses of water/day. " - this is the best eating method. Maybe add more veggies and fruits to clean out your system. you could try healthy low carb like southbeach. different bodies react differently to different diets. or clean eating which is I think really eating all natural foods - no process - lots of wheat, veggies and meat. your doctor is a moron for saying that. Eating less is as in below 1400 calories a day is not a weight loss method. All diets agree on that. it's all about what you eat and how frequently. Also maybe have your thyriod checked out. >Not to beat a dead horse, but the weight issue lays very heavy in my hands. >I've been on Leaxapro 40 mg, Wellbutrin 200 mg twice a day, and Remeron at >night. Guest guest
Hmmm intresting. I think I'll bring that up with my Doc at my next appt. See if she can recommend a general practitioner. Guest guest
Thanks for the info. I also had read that Remeron is a weight culprit. So, either goes the Remerom or carbs. Don't know which will be the hardest to give up,'cuz my psychiatrist is so helpful (sarcasm!!!) Guest guest
I requested and had a complete metabolic panel, including a TSH. The TSH came back within upper limit, and I suggested I have a T3 & T4. She said since the TSH was within normal limits, the other 2 would be also, and refused to give me a scrip for another lab. Guest guest
I've had thyroid tests come out within the low normal limits which makes me wonder if the low thyroid could be part of my depression problem. But my docs (past and present) have all refused to try me on a small dose of thyroid. They say it's not low enough, but my body is very chemically sensitive and I keep thinking that if I were on Thyroid medication, I might not be as depressed. Guest guest
Thank you for the positive response. I failed to mention I eat tons (not literally) of plain, non-fat yogurt, adding a bit of cinnamon, nutmeg, or other spice to cover up the taste. I'm beginning to feel as though I look curdled! Annie Myers <topmercedes40@...> wrote: You are doing everything right: exercise 3-4 times a week (good exercise, in other words I ache when I'm thru!) - maybe up it to 4-6 times - be sure to weight train. you probably know that. Guest guest
Sue , I would definetly make sure my thryoid is ok b4 I started anti depressents. Low thyroid does make you depressed and you can gain weight too. I was put on anti depressants when they should have checked my thryoid. Now 10 years later I ams still on anti depressents because I can't get off and I weigh at least 50 lbs more. Find a DO if you have to, they will look at your symptoms , not just labs. I have a good one here in Kingman, AZ. You also need Free T3 and Free T4 tests. TSH does not tell the whole story! Guest guest
Hi , thanks for your response. I have 25 years of medical back ground and know that the TSH alone doesn't tell the whole story but the docs I've had have done just that one test and have relied on those results alone. I ve been frustrated that I couldn't talk them into doing the other tests. I have always gone to a D.O. and I whole heartedly subscribe to their paradigm I just moved to this rural community in Maine 2 years ago. There's a D.O. here but he's not taking any new patients so I have his partner, an M.D. whom I am very happy with. I don't have any of the physical symptoms of low thyroid such as over weight or protruding eyeballs so they may be putting that together and deciding I don't have a thyroid issue. It makes sense to me that I would be depressed given my personal history. Also, it's in the genes; depression is in my family starting with my parents, siblings and cousins. So, I am destined to be depressed I guess. Sue C -- Re: Re: drinking alcohol Sue , I would definetly make sure my thryoid is ok b4 I started anti depressents. Guest guest
I did not think anything of it when they said dont drink alcohol with lexapro. I though it would make you sick or something. I had a few drinks on several Saturdays, but what happens the following wek is severe depression anxiety and mood swings. This is because alcohol lowers your seatonin levels, so one night relaxing witha few drinks can screw up your mental and emotional states for the whole next week and cause the lexapro to be inefective. jcdragonfly64 <dragonfly2@...> wrote: > > I am always tired on the 10 mg. of Lex. Guest guest
You clench your teeth too? I've never clenched my teeth until about a month after I started taking Lexapro. It really makes your jaw hurt. I clench my teeth a lot in my sleep and when I wake up my jaw hurts for a couple of hours. My doctor told me to get a mouth guard. Oh gee...thanks...lol Hi, I am new to this...I take 20mgs. Lexapro now, up from 15mgs. I notice that I clench my teeth alot. I have gained about 15 pounds in the last two years...I hate it! I was blaming the weight gain on the thyroid problem, but no? Glad to hear others are dealing with weight from this too. Jackie Owen
Guest guest
I have always ground my teeth when I slept. I never knew i did it until I learned I had TMJ syndrome. I also was told I was wearing my teeth down. They are MUCH shorter now,but I do wear a mouth guard every night now. I know this has alot to do with my daily headaches. Guest guest
According to Dr. Aceves you just can't have it immediately after surgery. Beyond that it is suggested you don't have it merely due to the caloric intake. On Fri, Feb 12, 2010 at 11:47 AM, gay hooks <gdwh1@...> wrote:  I need in print info on not drinking alcohol with the sleeve. Guest guest
I found this article written by a PhD. She's discussing mostly the gastric bypass procedure, but clearly states it to be applicable to ANY bariatric surgery procedure. See if this helps you: http://www.bbvitamins.com/research_Article_4.aspx > > I need in print info on not drinking alcohol with the sleeve.
