Guest guest
Hi , I also have noticed improvement with drinking a glass or two of wine with dinner occasionally when I'm with friends. I don't have alcohol often because I'm concerned about it being hard on my liver, but when I do have a glass of white wine, which is what works best for me, I get some relief from pain immediately, and sometimes I've noticed that I seem to have more energy the next day. I've never really tracked this. I've assumed that I have felt better because alcohol thins the blood. In fact, that has been the reason given by researchers as to why the French have fewer heart attacks than Americans-the regular wine consumption. And, for me, by not having a glass of wine more than once a week or two weeks, it may have a bigger reaction. I'm just guessing as to what it actually does, but I agree with your assessment, , for some of us, some positive physical internal reaction seems to occur when we have the right amount of alcohol. And for me it isn't about gaining confidence or any kind of psychological reaction, it's more like taking a pain killer that has a lasting effect. But that effect doesn't make me have any desire to drink alcohol or take a vicodin on any regular basis. I would rather endure the daily pain that I have than take anything that could have a more damaging effect over time. But, once in a while, in moderation, alcohol can be a good thing for me. Sandy > No, b/c my friend that I left a message on said I talked a lot quicker > (quicker word recall) and I even listened to the message and sure enough I was more elequent and quick witted when drinking. And this week after Sun's terrible hangover has been much better than average too as I haven't even taken any Boswellin and am still fine. > >
Guest guest
Yep I have..when I first went on lex..I went to a wedding and drank OH was I sick right in frint of a guy I had a crsh on I had to leave the whole wedding and opt to stay in the car. Guest guest
Hi Ann, My Dr. told me drinking does not have any adverse affects with Lex. Now benzos are a different story. Never have more then one or two if you are taking a benzo. But drinking with Lex is ok. On the package it recommends not to, but that's just to cover their butts. They don't someone getting crazy drunk and getting in a wreck or doing something stupid and trying to sue them saying the lex + alcohol made them do it. But these are my words - always consult with your doctor first. I will note I have had a few too many while taking Lexapro and nothing was different or I didn't feel sick or anything in the morning. >hi, >just wondering if any of you have an occasional drink >and how it effects you while your on lex? >ann > >

Guest guest
Thins like Xanax, Valium, Ativan. The anti-anxiety meds they give you and usually tell you you only take in emergency situations. A lot of doctors are hesitant to prescribe them at all. I think it's a bunch of bull. I think it's one of the best solutions for anxiety and esp. social anxiety. >-dumb question??? > >what are benzos? > > > > > > > > > >

Guest guest
I take xanax with the Lexapro, which I LOVE! It relaxes me like nothing else ever has. I have a real problem with anxiety attacks and when I start to get that feeling like I can't breathe, I pop one (they're 1mg) and within minutes, I'm calm again. I don't drink and take those though - I'd probably either get sick or pass out! I tried the Klonopin and it really didn't do anything. But the other problem that I have is that I'm a little obsessed with my weight and I refuse to take anything that might make me gain. I've been on Lex for a little over a month now and it has pretty much killed my appetite. I've lost close to 10#'s. So, the doc keeps feeding me the Xanax and I'm fine with that... roni sue <tonkatoy102973@...> wrote: yes... the doc prescribed mine after my " ticks " were starting to interfere with my school and my daily routines.. im a shaker and i cant sit still... i pace it got really bad... after i started taking the klonopin i started feeling so much more relaxed.. i still have my ticks but not to the point where im disturbing other people around me... Guest guest
Not at all. I think it depends on if you need them for medical reasons. What they do for me is help me realize everything is not such a big drastic deal - like if someone is rude, my feelings ar enot so hurt. My attitude changes for the better - like life is life and that's how it goes. It also helps me function at work to where I'm not afraid to make phone calls or talk to authorities. If you purposely take too much or you don't really need them for medical reasons, they will most likely put you to sleep and/or make you feel a little 'high', which in my liberal opinion is a good thing. >-- >sounds like I could use these LOL. >Do they help you if you get to feeling real crazy? >Like when you feel out of control? >ann > > >- In Lexapro , " Myers " <topmercedes40@h...> >wrote: > > Thins like Xanax, Valium, Ativan. Guest guest
Paxil is the first choice for social anxiety, but my doc started me on Lex instead cause Paxil is notorious for its weight gaining side effect and I'm very conscious about my weight. I take Ambien for that and it's just not working anymore...the doc thinks it might be becaise I have hpothyroidism and even though it's been regulated for years, it's high now and they have to change my meds. Guest guest
Well Lexapro is sounding more promising. I would love to weigh just 185! Although I weighed 135 17 years ago when I married DH. I am 50 now in menaupaus or done! I have gained a lot since hypo and depression. My sis takes Lex and doesn't seem to have gained a bunch but she did gain some on Paxil but is also going through peri menapause. She had to double the Lex before it worked for her! I tried Lex once before but the low dose did not work for me. Effexor killed my appetite but the low dose did not work on it either and I could not get into the do to up it fast enough and was forced to go back on my Paxil. Guest guest
I've had a glass of wine, or a couple mixed drinks while on the lex, and no adverse side effects. Drinking occasionally while on the Lex shouldn't hurt anything. However, there are two important things to keep in mind when drinking alcohol while on an antidepressant: 1) Alcohol is a depressant. Drinking too much alcohol too often will pretty much undo any antidepressant effect of the Lex. 2) Lexapro is removed from your system by the liver. So is alcohol. Drinking excessively while on the Lex, or drinking anything alcoholic if you already have liver disease, could damage your liver badly. So, in answer to your original question, an occasional drink shouldn't hurt anything. Just be kind to your body. ~Ru > hi, > just wondering if any of you have an occasional drink > and how it effects you while your on lex? > ann
Guest guest
wish the lex would get rid of my appetite. I have always been chubby and I am a bit concercerned that when I up my lexdose weight willbe an issue. do you think it depends on the mg of dosage..do you think the wieght thing could be related more to the sedative effect it has so a person may may move around less? I dunno. I am 5 foot and weight 126 and that is already too much. I swear I will through the lex out if weight becomes an issue. I have started walking 2 or so miles a day to help anxiety and ward off any weight gain. to be honest I donot think the lex has changed my apppetite. I have days where I feel so bad I cannot eat and others where I am a piggy . SO>> did anyone notice weight or apaetite changes relative to a change in dosage? thanks , alison On Thu, 11 Aug 2005 08:36:40 -0500 " Myers " <topmercedes40@...> writes: > I'm only 5'3, so 185 for me is considered pretty obese.
