For me the whole surgery trip was like being on a vacation. The territory south of the border was new and interesting. San Diego was fun. The drive down and back from Monterey was gorgeous and I find the coast very healing no matter when I'm there. The hospital and staff were perfection. The surgery felt like it didn't even happen. I had no post-op complications except for the referred shoulder pain (which I don't really consider a complication, just an irritation) which was more severe and lasted longer than expected. I thought it would never go away.........but it did. I played strictly by the rules....did not lose much weight -- 12 lbs in 4 months (I have NO metabolism, I swear) -- and then went for my first fill this Dec 15th.(another mini-vacation!) NOW I feel a difference and have already lost another 4 lbs since the 15th. . Take a book with you. The TV stations are limited.

I slept a lot after surgery but also walked around the hospital as suggested. If I ever go for a fill again, I'll stay over night in Mexicali -- maybe two nights -- and be a tourista there... I love travel of every sourt whether it's a walk in my own neighborhood or to some other country. It all makes me very happy. You will be glad for this process, I have no doubt of that. new to the group and plan to have a surgery as soon as I can get the money together for a sleeve or Lap Band. I wanted to see if anyone wanted to share their story and their experiences on either surgery. On the group I am hearing such positive things about Dr Aceves. Of course, I want to make sure I am well informed. Any advice? Norton, I asked for your name yesterday at Dr Dunckel. Could you contact me. I would love to chat.

Hi, Jana. Welcome to our site. There are many, many experiences if you go to the home page of the Aceves Group and read. You can literally spend night after night reading success stories with us and other sites as well. The experiences are pretty much the same. We decided on Aceves after research and discussions with his staff members and in some cases other docs, too. We scheduled the surgery, flew to San Diego, got picked up by Ernesto, was greeted by Yolanda at the hospital, had tests, checked into the Lucerna hotel, had a great meal, went to the hospital the next day for surgery, awoke about an hour later with a life-altering device in our tummies. We stayed in the hospital for two more days, went back to San Diego, flew home, followed the program, and LOST WEIGHT! Some of us, due to age, medical conditions or lifestyles, have lost faster or slower than others. In general, we have all had very positive experiences. Some have had a few minor problems with unfortunate fill experiences (none with the A Team in Mexicali). Some have had unfills, some have had one fill, others have had 4 or 5. The only thing I can tell you is that this surgery is sometimes considered the "last hope" for ever losing those unwanted pounds and regaining control over our lives. My only advise to anyone flying home after surgery is to have a change of underwear and outer clothes in your carry on bag at the airport for the trip home. After having liquids in for several days, it turns into liquid out. Be prepared for any accidents. Other than that, there are no other negatives associated with this process in my book. Happy New Year!
