Guest guest
A lot of people had to have hiatal hernia repairs (inc. me) with their VSG surgeries. I didn't have this outcome, nor have I heard of it, but others may be more forthcoming with their information. Wait to see what replies you receive, but it sounds like you may be in a small number of people with this scenario. > > Hi, > > Has anyone had an esophageal stricture that had to be widened? I just had my 3 mo (VSG 1/06/2011) follow up Upper GI. The radiologist said I had a narrowing where my hiatal hernia was repaired which was interfering with my swallowing and he was was going to recommend an Endoscopy so that it could be opened up a little more. I've been having trouble since I got on solid food. I haven't heard back from my PCP yet, but believe me I wouldn't do anything until I got the report and films to send to Dr Aceves for his expert opinion. I was hoping to hear of experiences with this procedure after having a VSG with a hiatal hernia repair. > > Thanks so much, > > Priscilla >
Guest guest
I think you are on the right track. By all means have Dr. Aceves look at this. I find that having that narrowing, it makes me eat slower, chew more and has benefited me a lot. I just thought this was a normal things after a repair. Guest guest
That happens in people who never had surgery before as well as people who had surgery. My Dad used to have to have his esophagus dilated. He would get food stuck at the bottom of his esophagus and they would have to remove it and dilate it via endoscopy. They just put you in twilight sleep and it takes a few minutes. On Thu, Apr 14, 2011 at 6:59 PM, golferette1 <psinc96@...> wrote: Hi, Has anyone had an esophageal stricture that had to be widened? Guest guest
I was VERY sick after my surgery and this is what the Dr attributed it to. I ended up in the hospital for 3 days and after they did the endoscopy to make sure there was no problems from the surgery I was fine so they said going down with the camera probably stretched it enough to allow food and drink to go down. Oh and by the way I did not have a hernia repair this was just something that happened for unknown reasons but I still do not regret my surgery-best thing I ever did for myself From: golferette1 <psinc96@...>Subject: Esophageal Stricture Date: Friday, April 15, 2011, 1:59 AM Hi,Has anyone had an esophageal stricture that had to be widened? Guest guest
Hi Bipley, My bother who did not have surgery had it too. Once they dialated it via endoscopy he never had anymore trouble. He used to have some pretty awful choking fits! I don't choke but do have to vomit sometimes. It's more of an uncomfortable pressure between my breasts, and the food/liquid backs up into my throat. My throat gets so sore that sometimes I even get earaches from it. I also have reflux and take 2 Protonix/day now. I'm sort of afraid that widening it my make the reflux even worse. Dr Aceves thought it sounded like food was getting stuck too and was glad I was having the test. I'll just have to see what he thinks after he reviews the x-rays. Guest guest
Oh I don't regret my surgery either! I think my situation is just a minor complication. I'm sorry you were so sick and glad all is well for you now.
