Guest guest
I doubt it will be a problem. It's ideal to have someone else drive you but I could have done it with no problem. They are only sending you home with Tylenol anyway because honestly, that's all you need. Many go back to work four days after surgery. I think Dr. A's thinking is two fold. Narcotics tend to make people sick to their stomach and you just can't barf during the healing phase. Also, there is a difference between discomfort and actual pain. Discomfort is something you can feel and it is annoying but doable. Pain is doubled over, hard to breathe because of pain... that kind of feeling. You are likely to experience some discomfort vs. actual pain. Just make sure to stop after about an hour or so and walk for about 3-5 minutes, it's to prevent blood clots from forming. On Dec 14, 2007 10:37 AM, smorgan213 < smorgan213@...> wrote: Hi all, I'm having my surgery a week from today (yeah!). I have a question about Sunday, though. If my surgery is on Friday, will I be feeling well enough on Sunday to drive myself home (about a 2 hour drive)? What has everyone's experience been with this? I am pretty healthy overall (except for all the extra weight), but I'm not sure how many painkillers, etc I'll be on to be in driving condition. Can others share how they were feeling two days after surgery? Thanks! Sharon
Guest guest
Sharon, Two days after surgery I was on a flight from San Diego to Chicago, then drove home another 3 hours. No problems except tiredness. You'll very likely be fine, but build some free time into your travel schedule to be on the safe side. Bipley <Bipley@...> wrote: I doubt it will be a problem. Guest guest
Hi Sharon, You will be fine if you MAKE yourself stop every 45-60 minutes and get out of the car and move around a bit. I left the hospital the day after my surgery and my daughter drove me to her house in Lake Havasu City (about a 3.5 hour drive). I thought it went fine, then the next morning I was up early and went grocery shopping with my wife...again, no problems. This whole experience was amazing to me; you will be so pleasantly surprised by it all...I promise. Have a safe drive, and best wishes with the new journey. ALSO, stay on the "boards" with us after you get back, we all love hearing from each other and still need the regular boosts of encouragement we all give each other. -drjim DOB: 10/3/07 276/236/185smorgan213 <smorgan213@...> wrote: Hi all,I'm having my surgery a week from today (yeah!). Guest guest
Thanks so much, everyone, for your input. My friends were trying to change their Christmas plans to drive me home and I didn't want them to do that. I feel much more comfortable now. And I hate medicines of any kind, so I may not even be on the Tylenol if I can help it. And Jim...OMG! 40 pounds already? That's amazing. Congratulations! You're almost 1/2 way to your goal!!! Guest guest
I had my husband drive me home, but we live a good 5 hours away, and we checked out a night early. Could I have driven? Yes. Did I want t? Not really. I think that you'll be fine. > > Hi all, > I'm having my surgery a week from today (yeah!). I have a question about Sunday, though. My only suggestion is to bring magazines and DVDs with you. I didn't download any movies to my laptop ahead of time, and many of the English-speaking TV stations kept getting blocked ( & *^$$% V chip). oh thanks for the tip! I'll have my hubby dig out his personal dvd player as well (gotta keep the chauffeur happy happy! LOL!) We're hoping the rain holds off on Friday so we can get down there on time too - so exciting!!! Congrats on driving yourself home and your quick recovery - how cool and what a wonderful present to yourself Take care, TrishSee AOL's top rated recipes and easy ways to stay in shape for winter. Guest guest
Sorry about my late response -- didn't look at the date! Glad that the drive home went smoothly. > > > > I had my husband drive me home, but we live a good 5 hours away, and > > we checked out a night early. Could I have driven? Yes. Guest guest
All you'll be taking is Tylenol so it should not affect you as far as your thinking & awareness. Some people head home the day after surgery & drive a few hours. Reno > > > > Hi all, > > I'm having my surgery a week from today (yeah!). I have a question > about Sunday, though.
