WHY ???? Re: Deaf People's Reaction to CI

You are absolutely right! It was just me venting against the humiliating

experiences I suffered. When I read that email from the CI child's parent

about the CI child's experiences at the deaf school, it brought out all of

these

bad memories for me. I apologize if I offended anyone. I am STILL in

therapy trying to deal with all of this stuff.

The SAD truth is even if that CI child NEVER got a cochlear implant, the

people in charge at the deaf school would STILL be HORRID and LIE to the

family.

WHY? Because if the child is the ONLY deaf member of that family, then they

DO NOT care for the family. Because the family is IRRELEVANT to them,

meaning people in charge at the Deaf school. That is what I meant by COMMUNIST

(all Deaf MUST be exactly the same).

IF everyone in the family were DEAF, hello, it will be a very different

story. The people in charge would give the " song and dance " about supporting

the

family's choices. That is where the LOSER label comes in. Because the

people in charge behave like two-faced monsters.

There is a favorite scene of mine from a Deaf play called " Tales from a

Clubroom " The Deaf printer had an accident at work and he has only one finger

left on each hand. Guess which finger that is?

That CI child is going to do very well. I wish that child would be removed

immediately from the deaf school and put into another school where their

philosophy is more supportive of Cochlear Implants.

I come from a long history of being against the Oral method but I have come

around to support the Oral approach for many reasons.

The Oral deaf philosophy ENCOURAGES deaf people to be self advocates, be

independent AND parents, regardless of their hearing status, are

WELCOMED!!!!!!!!

But, to be fair, I was talking before I lost my hearing so if I was immersed

into the Oral programs early on, I would still be okay. But I grew up with

Signed Exact English and FYI, some militant Deaf perceive Signed Exact

English = Oral. It is difficult for me to understand that point of view. This

is

where the DRUGS come in. I suspect these people dabble in drugs because

their behavior is so similar to drug addicts I have seen on the street. Their

way of thinking makes no sense to me!

And I admit that some deaf children do BETTER with the language of the Deaf

Culture which is American Sign Language. If their parents are not deaf, then

it means that the parents HAVE to make ALL of the effort because it is so

rare that a Deaf family would invite non-deaf parents to a dinner party or

invite them for playdates between their kids.

This is based on my personal experiences.

That is ALL I will say on this subject.

Yes, I sound like a right-wing extremist because the story about the awful

treatment this family received made my blood boil!
