Hi Bill,

Depends on what caused your hearing loss 11 years ago. If the nerve

is still functional, but sound wasn't getting there, then a CI should

work. I certainly had no hearing in my left ear for 20 years, and that's

where my implant is. I talk on the phone without using any adaptive

equipment, go to movies, listen to the radio, and hear everything very

well. So, if the auditory nerve is still functional, and they can

perhaps test that with a promontory stimulation test, the CI should work.

I've been lurking the list lately and have seena numerous ammount of

posts regarding nerve stimulation and how it can effect CI adaptation. I

had a complete hearing loss in my right ear at the age of 17 (left ear

'dead' as long as I can remember). The right ear was fully functioning up

until age 13 or 14 when I noticed a loss. I had audi tests ran and

obtained a HA at that time which brought the hearing back to a 'normal'

level in that ear. At age 17 I woke up to complete silence (save the

roaring tinnitus that still persists). For the past 11 years my right ear

has recieved no nerve stimulation at all. My question is, will this

effect my chances of hearing with a CI?
