AG Bell Live E-seminar

April 13, 2006

When Are Hearing Aids Not Enough?

Many hearing aid users who find their hearing aids are not providing enough

help to understand speech and other more complex sounds like music are often

faced with the question: Should I invest in new hearing aids or is it time

to look into a cochlear implant? With children these questions can be more

difficult.

How do parents and teachers know when it may be time to upgrade hearing aids

or consider a cochlear implant? Because of progress over the past two

decades, people with a severe loss are often candidates and don’t realize

it. Cochlear implant candidancy has widened over time and technology has

improved considerably, meaning that cochlear implant recipients have better

and better outcomes. Join us to some considerations specific to children in

determining if it’s time to consider a cochlear implant.
