Guest guest
Hi , Apparently I was wrong on deaf. What I think of as Deaf is unable to understand/hear even with a hearing aid. Folks who can use a hearing aid, I think of as Hard of Hearing. Semantics. Several people corrected me, and it turns out ch, sh and so forth are Fricatives. Another juicy word to wrap your mouth around. Yep, hard to figure out what you do with sound if you've never had it, and how you can make use of it. Which is why I'm not an audiologist. Later, The Original Thanks for clarifying that! I know a prelingually deaf adult who never learned language as his hearing loss was so profound. He was one of the first people in Australia to have a cochlear implant but he had the same problem of not knowing what to do with the sounds. They gave him a headache too so he had it turned off. I can see that it would make a big difference with deaf people if they had had previous exposure to sound. It's just not made that clear in the information leaflets on cochlear implants. LOL about dipthongs! That sounds a unique word!
