Stubborn Little Girl

Hi All,

I have a very stubborn little girl. She had her third mapping session

last week and did great. She sat there for nearly an hour and a half

and diligently did drop the block tasks and gave great signals for the

Audie to really fine tune her. When she went live with her new mapping,

she did great. She repeated everything beautifully for the Audi. She

even modified a couple of sounds that were too low and made the correct

higher pitched sound, much to the delight of the team. The problem is

when we get home and in therapy. She simply refuses to open her mouth

and use it. I know she knows how because she is a very vocal child, but

she will not do it when you ask her to. By that I mean, for example,

she wants a drink. She will not say drink, cup, milk, juice, nothing,

but just grunt, growl or scream or any combination of the three. The

more we try to get her to calm down and listen, the worse she gets. I

know she is hearing. I know she is hearing more now than she ever heard

with her hearing aids. So why is she being such a little schnickel? In

therapy, she pretty much throws a fit and we spend a good portion of the

session trying to get her to calm down. Our speech therapist is

wonderful and of course uses the tantrum as a part of therapy. I know

she is in the " terrible twos " but she will be three in April, so

shouldn't she be " graduating " out of that phase slowly but surely?

Any support and input on when your own children really seemed to take

off would be appreciated.

Thanks!
