Guest guest
Joni, I had some speech understanding a few days before my second mapping. In fact, I could understand 40-50% of what was said depending on the person speaking and how clearly they spoke. After getting my second map, I lost all of that discrimination. While I know speech discrimination takes time (my audi also quoted a 3-6 month time frame), I didn't expect to lose *all* of the speech understanding I had gained up to the date of my second mapping. Jackie (I think) described it perfectly when she said that it was like being given a gift and suddenly having it snatched away. I'm not discouraged...just a little surprised that I'm back to square one. At the very least, I thought I would have maintained some degree of speech understanding rather than losing it all. <smile> Implanted: 12/22/04 Activated: 1/18/05 Deafblind/Postlingual BTE hearing aid user 20 years Severe-profound hearing loss 10 years

Guest guest
, Could you make that a tall super duper orange mocha? I could sure use it. I'm frustrated for a variety of reasons today. I haven't worn my CI today and don't plan to either. I'm tired of hearing all of those high pitches especially when nothing seems to be changing. Yes, I know things will get better and yes, I e-mailed my audi but so far, no response. <sigh> I'll give my CI another try tomorrow and see what happens. Guest guest
, Absolutely. Anything you want. And its ok to take a day off from the CI. And your audie can put that good map back and maybe do nothing more than widen the C and T levels. (pats on the back and tells her its gonna be awright dear. Lotsa mochas to come too.) *---* *---* *---* *---* *---* We'll Be Back in 5 minutes, Sit! Guest guest
, If I could come over to help you move, I would. I know what a headache that can be. <hugs> Maybe my sister could help you move? Oh, that's right. She never wants to see a cardboard box again. LOL! Let's call it a day and enjoy a mocha together. <smile> We'll leave the cardboard boxes and CI on hold until tomorrow. Guest guest
, So you've met my sister before? LOL! Just kidding! If you ever had the chance to meet, I think you'd like her! Unfortunately, she doesn't care for mochas. She's more of a hot chocolate connoisseur. LOL!
