Guest guest
Hi , How much hearing do you have in the ear where you are using the HA now? And how much do you have when your HA is off? Because to qualify for an implant I'd think your residual hearing is pretty bad anyway. So how much are you losing by not having residual hearing when you get the second implant vs how much more you will hear with that second implant. As for not hearing at all, if you wear your implant all the time you are awake, then all you need are signallers for when you are asleep. Get a strobe light smoke alarm, flashing doorbell and phone signallers and you're all set. I was implanted in my worse ear, the one that had no hearing for 20 years. /The other ear has no amplifiable hearing anyway. I have the strobe light fire alarm, and the bell and phone signallers, and I don't worry at all. Also have a dog. I think you'll be happy you traded poor hearing in one ear for bilateral, and as long as you can get the items you need to make yourself feel secure when you are asleep, then you don't have anything to worry about. Nucleus Volunteer Post lingual - Auto Immune disorder From: linda michela <lindyrun@...> Subject: silence.............. Hi i have a question to ask anyone out there regarding the wait on the turn on. I get so frighten just thinking about the dead quite while waiting for the activation. I wear a HA now and have a cochlear implant on the worst ear done first not hearing out of this implant ear for over 20 years. Now i am gettin referred for a second impant in the HA ear and the thought of goin totally deaf and not hear anything NORMAL sound ever again just scares me to no end. They think i will get quicker results with the better ear. How are some of you dealing with the silence and anxiety if any?
