Guest guest
Thanks , I didn't know that you can get discounts on your phone and water and sewer bills. Is this available to all people who are deaf or does it depend on where you live? Thanks for your help! Disabled? Hi , Some people use " differently abled " but I figure with the processor off I'm deaf as a doorknob, so yes, I am disabled. There's no shame to it. Gets me a discount on my phone rate, and homestead exemption on water and sewer. Posted by: " " jmc62@... may51980joey Sat Mar 24, 2007 8:42 pm (PST) I agree, ! Now, are we still considered " disabled " after we get our implants? I became deaf very suddenly after hearing normally my whole life. I've only been deaf for a couple of months and have never really thought of myself as " disabled " , I just think " I can't hear " . But I guess other people would consider me " disabled. " But how do you all feel after you get your CI's? Do you still consider yourself " disabled " ? Just wondering....I haven't gotten mine yet, but I was just curious as to what you all thought about this....Thanks for your input!

Guest guest
, Check with your phone company. They usually have a TTY number or 800 number for deaf/hearing impaired people to call about special services. As to water/sewer, that is something you can ask about at city hall. Now I need to go buy a house so I can do this too. Guest guest
Forgive me for going a bit off topic here.....but hey Dizzy Blonde brought it up!! LOL I was just thinking, of course deaf people should get phone discounts...for all the time we spend asking for repeats..it's beyond our control...but.....do we use water and sewer more than hearing people do?? LOL....I don't " get it " . , why don't you buy yourself a Mocha House! <grin> > > , > Check with your phone company. Guest guest
, Buy me a Mocha House, why that is a fabulous idea! Wanna go partners? LOL (I will do the baking of course.) Yeah, why would we get a break on water/sewer since we use that no more or else than anyone else? Good question. *---* *---* *---* *---* *---* My wild oats have turned to shredded wheat. & Dreamer Doll (Guide Dawggie) Newport, Oregon N24C 3G 8/2000 Hookup rclark0276@... http://webpages.charter.net/dog_guide/
Guest guest
Persons who are over age 65, which I am not, or permanents disabled, which I am are entitled to " homestead " exemptions on water, sewer and property taxes. The Universal Service Assistance (USA) program discounts your phone bill. All are also income dependent, but I qualify that way as well. Remind me about it tomorrow at the meeting and I'll dish you the dirt. The homestead exemptions are county specific, so might not apply to whatever county you live in. But you are entitled to a Golden Buckeye card, or Silver Saver, or whatever they call it in your area. 10% discount in a lot of places like 's, Border's books, etc. Some places give free coffee or soda with a Golden Buckeye card. Again, over age 65 or permanents disabled. Take whatever I can get. My phone bill is $8.18 most months after the discount. But of course I don't have any perks on the phone like call waiting, call forwarding, 2nd line, and so forth. Don't even have a long distance carrier on the phone, just use the calling cards I get at discount stores. \, You get a discount on phone, water and sewer due to deafness? Do you mind explaining how? You may email me off list. Thanks, Freedom 9/21/05 HOOKED
Guest guest
Not sure what services your state or county provide, but in Cuyahoga County, Ohio the discounts are available. You just need to apply. When I applied for the homestead exemption on property taxes, it was retroactive for 3 years, back to the time I became the homeowner. Never hurts to see what kind of services are available for people who are disabled - by the State's definition. Works for me, and saves me some big bucks. Check your county auditor, or whoever you pay your taxes to, and whoever does the water and sewer for senior citizen/disabled rates. You don't have to be a senior, but you do have to be either a senior or disabled. I've had these discounts for ages. USA - which is Universal Service Assistance, is explained in the front of your telephone book. Because TTY calls take longer, it first started as a discount for long distance calls made by a TTY. It later became a waiver of the Federal tax and charges on the phone. Which runs about $14 per months on my phone. So that is deducted. But check your phone book for information on that. Thanks , I didn't know that you can get discounts on your phone and water and sewer bills. Is this available to all people who are deaf or does it depend on where you live? Thanks for your help!
