Guest guest
Happy Sweet Sixteen, Cayla!! What an amazing birthday this year must be, on top of it being Sweet Sixteen (and I hope you've been kissed! LOL) I'm glad someone finally took the time to explain to you what to expect from your new hearing. It is a process, and is different for everybody. Some progress from sounds in the environment to speech rapidly. Others take longer. I understand your impatience and I don't blame you a bit! LOL How wonderful that your Mom is taking the time with you everyday. This will definately help you " get there " that much sooner. My husband got bored of the exercises very quickly! LOL Good luck! Guest guest
I meant to answer this yesterday but yesterday was a hectic day and I was not on the computer very long. First I want to welcome Cayla to CI Hear and Happy Birthday to you today. It's so exciting to be 16 and now you have sound as a special gift for that birthday. The gift you received from your church was so thoughtful. I'm sure you can't really appreciate it yet but as time goes on, you should be able to do that. Right now, you are taking those famous " baby steps " I always refer to so it's a good idea to take one day at a time and let your brain adjust to this new addition of the noises of the world. It's a noisy world too. You have a mapping tomorrow. See if you can take some time today to write down exactly what you are hearing so that your audiologist can make the proper adjustments. Don't expect this mapping to make things perfect thought. Again - you are taking baby steps. About your batteries. You may be able to get a lot more than 2 days on your batteries so why don't you wait until the sound stops and then change them. It's ok to let them drain all the way. At least you could do this a couple of times to get an idea how long your batteries will last but remember, this can also vary based on the amount of sound you are exposed to. You will use your batteries faster if you are in a lot of noise - like music. I hope you hear them sing Happy Birthday to you today. It may not sound great but it's still nice to be able to hear it. Enjoy your special day. Alice
Guest guest
cayla i dreaded taking off my 3 g at night too when i first got it. now i am used to taking it off to sleep. i think it gives my cochlea nerves a break too. i use flashing signal light alarm clock that s designed for the deaf. it works great. you also can get a vibrating alarm clock that will wake you up easily too. i sleep much better knowing i will woken up effectively by a flashing alarm clock instead of looking at the clock every half hour all night waiting to see if time to wake up lol. these things can be found on several websites...do a google search for " alerting devices for the deaf " if u need help searching for these devices. just ask, joni prelingual
Guest guest
Cayla, Happy birthday (belated) Merry Christmas, and congrats on your CI. Not only does your skin need to breathe, but your processor could be damaged if you wear it while sleeping. I do the same as , know what time I need to wake up, and just wake up at that time.
