Guest guest
Hi , Because of the cost of mapping equipment and training audiologists to map various implants, you will sometimes find a doctor who only does one type of implant. More commonly they offer two types, and on rare occassions all three. However, if you want the Freedom, that is what you should have. So what you do is simple, go to the Cochlear Website: www.cochlear.com and go to the " Find a Clinic " section. Enter your zipcode and it will tell you who does Nucleus implants in your area. Then you get ALL OF YOUR MEDICAL RECORDS from the Dr. (and yes, you are entitled to all of them) including CT scans, MRIs and any other things you've had done, and you take them to the new center. That way you won't have to have any of the expensive tests repeated. Get yourself with someone who offers you a choice. It's your life, your body, your choice. And given the news that Advanced Bionics has yet another recall of their device, it might be months before they will be back on the market again. So, find a new center, and go for what you want. The Cochlear Website will also show how to become a member of the Nucleus forum, which is mainly Nucleus users. has a lot of Nucleus users, but then it's the brand that has been around the longest, and has done the most implants worldwide. But there are users of Advanced Bionics and Med-el devices as well. Just statistically, there are more Nucleus users worldwide, so more on the forum. There is a Clarion forum as well, and its address is CI-2-Clarion You can log on there and sign up for the Clarion forum as well. I don't think Med-el brand has a forum. But one of the users can tell you about that. The Original From: " paulmmorris " <pmm_boston@...> Subject: Help..... I'm in need of some advice. I'm approved for CI. There is no question of my need or desire for one. But, the doctor seems to be pushing an Advanced Bionics CI on me. At first, he order the device without even informing me. Now, his scecrety states that is the only CI that he uses and he wants to know why I am desirous for a Cochlear Freedom. The Cochlear Freedom is available as a choice and I thought this was already settled between myself and my audi. I need some help on this and I'm in some distress...
