Rechargeable Batteries

Hi I also had a problem with the recharables, I am on a high speed

and the batteries now last me 12 hours. The best advice I was given

is to fully discharge them and charge them over night then monitor

the time. I was only getting 4 hours when I began I was activated 7-

21-06 so I am new to this as well. I did have my 3 month hearing test

and my hearing ability was at the level of a person without a hearing

loss.......can you imaginge what we would do with out our CI? I

always carry with me the adapter for the disposable batteries so I

will not be with the ability to hear. Don't get too discouraged.

I got the Freedom upgrade BTE in late December 2006. Of course, I didn't

get in to see the Audiologist until Mid-January to get it programmed. My

inquiry has to do with the Rechargeable Batteries. I've already had to get a

replacement (under warranty) for one and now it seems I must get a replacement

for the other one. I'm wondering about the average life span of these

rechargeable batteries. I put the battery I've worn each day into the

rechargeable

at night, so it never goes anywhere except in my BTE or the charger. Will

those of you who have the upgrade Freedom BTE and who wear the rechargeable

batteries daily let me know if my experience of having to get replacement

batteries is normal (3-4 month life span)? Since I believe the life of a

battery

is dependent on the strength that is pulled off of it after each charge,

wouldn't ALL of our BTEs be pulling off the strength in a similar timeframe

because of the Cochlear Implant itself? I know we've all talked about the life

of

a charge but, so far as I know, I've not seen a posting addressing the issue

of the life span of the rechargeable battery itself.

I'm just wondering about this and when warranty is off....do I continue with

the rechargeable(s) or, do I perhaps switch over to the disposables? Since

I am now on Medicare, and eventually get reimbursed on most of the expense of

the disposables & I suppose the same would apply to the rechargeable ones,

the question is just, so far as I'm concerned, one that is for the less

hassle. I do though think of those of you who are not on Medicare and your

experiences and expenses as well....so, I feel this may be an area we need to

discuss.

Evan,

I was activated with my Freedom upgrade in December and use both

rechargeables on a regular basis. No problems. I generally can go 2 days

on one so on the 2nd day I pop the spare into the charger overnight.

Its the number of charge cycles that determines the useful working life

of these batteries.

Did you replace just one or both of the batteries? If both, you might

ask if Cochlear will replace the charger just in case its suspect.

Hi-

I have had two rechargeable batteries and one

charger replaced since my Nov. 2006 activation to the

Freedom upgrade. Each time, Cochlear has been very

gracious and quick at replacing the problem equipment.

I do not see it as a weakness with the equipment but

rather that by chance I ended up with equipment that

needed replacement.

Anytime, anyone has a problem with any piece of

equipment, one can call up Cochlear and they will

explain what can done. Any questions if whether

something is covered under warranty can be answered

then as well. In my 17 years as a cochlear implantee,

I've had numerous replacements and repair work done

and have always been happy with the service I've

received from Cochlear. They want to keep me " up and

running " with my cochlear implant!

Personally, I love the Freedom to use either

rechargeable batteries or disposable batteries and use

both types. For daily use, I use rechargeables but I

always keep my battery cage and a spare set of

disposables in my purse for backup. If I'm out of

town and don't want to bring the battery charger, I

use disposables. I love this flexibility!

So, if in doubt, call Cochlear. Customer service

is 1-877-883-3101.

With joy,

Contact Cochlear or your CI center. They will send replacements for your

batteries. They found a problem with the o-rings (gaskets) with the

rechargeables. They'll send you new ones with a white casing on the inside

so you'll be able to tell the difference.

It may be stretched out. It has to be replaced. Unfortunately, Cochlear

do not sell o-rings anymore due to customers' handling. I found out

yesterday when asking for o-rings. Other options are buying disposable

batteries cage (cheapest) or rechargeable batteries. If your Freedom is

less than year old, batteries can be replaced for free under warranty.
