Guest guest
Hi , Fortunately I haven't been in a situation yet where my 3G died in the middle of a street crossing. I have a pretty good idea of when my batteries will lose power. If I'm walking down the street and notice sounds becoming distorted, I will stop and change the batteries immediately *before* I'm at a street crossing. If my batteries only have a few hours of power left on them, I will change them in the morning before going out the door. I then place the " old " batteries in a container and put them back into my processor when I get home. There have been a few times my hearing aids lost power during a street crossing. Most of the time it was only one hearing aid (usually my left HA) which meant I could still hear out of the other ear. When this kind of thing happens, it can be enough to set your nerves on edge! On another note, I have good news! Today I received a call from my guide dog trainer. We haven't talked in awhile, so I told him about Tigger and about my CI. He was very pleased to hear about my CI progress and asked about any problems I might be having with sound localization. I told him about my insurance and the fact that I may not find a hearing aid strong enough for me to use. (My HA audi at my CI center said the SUMO is the only hearing aid that will give me the amplification I need for sound localization.) He offered to write a letter of support for bilateral CIs when the paperwork is submitted to insurance. He also said he would ask the director of their deafblind program as well as the director of training to write their own letters of support. Wish me luck! I will discuss all of this with my surgeon when I see him in September. Good luck tomorrow!! <smile> I'll be thinking of you!!
