World Around You is the Clerc Center's magazine for deaf and hard of

hearing teens. It provides motivation for independent and guided

reading and creative writing. World Around You fosters a sense of

community and enhances its readers' self-esteem by focusing on the

achievements of young people who are deaf and hard of hearing. It also

sponsors with Gallaudet University a national essay contest for deaf

and hard of hearing students with scholarship money awarded to the top

place winners.
