The Nucleus 5 processor comes in all the same basic colors as the Freedom

except that beige is now called sand. You are confusing the cool colors

offered in the processor COVERS line.

The remote is in no way, shape or form a " substitute for a clinical

audiologist. "

It's all in those manuals!

Freedom upgrade

Three people that I know at first did not think the Nucleus (Freedom) 5

was a significant improvement over the Freedom but now think differently.

The 5. case has such garish colors and isf far different than the biege that

I always wore. The remote is a substitute for a clinical audiologist. Have

not read the 5 manuals yet but there may not be a need for often switching

programs wireless. The 5 uses the same SS2 software.

I have an unopened Freedom processor. I acknowledge that ovetall the 5 is

better than the Freedom for new users. Once I have a clinical audiologist

send the Freedom back to Cochlear I made an irreversible decision.

Three  members explained this but I will try too.  With the Freedom and older

processors the clinical audiologist has to program everything beforehand.  With

the remote once programmed certain changes can be made by the user such as

telecoil to miic ratio.  In other words there are specific things the user can

change on his/her own without intervention of the clinical audiologist.  I am

eligible to a free upgrade to the Nucleus 5 in 6 months of wearing the Freedom

upon completing a survey.  Without having the remote or processor in hand it is

difficult to go into detail.

Gerald,

The remote control gives the user added functionality. It does not

replace the audi. Yes there are functions a user can carry out AFTER the

audi is done programming. This is not new. With each succeeding generation

of processors, Cochlear has made them more user friendly in that the user

has more control.

Case in point. The 3G allowed the user to change either volume OR

sensitivity, not both. The user had to choose which he/she wanted control

of.

The Freedom not only gave us control of both, it gave us ability to

customize each program to use out in the field. Now we have the Nuke 5

which adds not only the remote control but control over audio mix.

Again, the remote control adds functionality but does not make the audi

obsolete.
