That's great news Gail!!

Whoo hoo!

We can't believe it, but our insurance company paid the entire cost for 's surgery! Plus they are paying for about 90% of her test stuff, so we only have to pay about $1,100 for our part.

I honestly cannot believe it! I thought we were going to have to mortgage the kids to pay for everything.

Hi . I had my first meeting with my surgeon on April 19th. Here are some of

the questions I asked her:

1. Since I had already chosen my implant supplier and model, I asked for

her opinion of my choice. If you have not yet decided, I would certainly kick it

around with Dr, Weber.

2. I asked what size would the incision be.

3. I mentioned that I would not want to be sick or have nausia upon

wakening, and would like meds if required.

4. I asked what type of stitches she used(dissolvable, staples, etc).

5. I asked about pain medication after surgery.

6. I asked for her advice on how long after surgery I would be able to

drive.

7. I wanted to know if my selection had a curved or straight array.

8. I discussed with her which ear should be implanted as I had not

decided at that point. We both finally agreed on my worse ear.

9. I wanted to know what schedule of visits with her should I count on

after surgery.

10. Finally, I asked about a surgery date. I was referred to the Surgery

Scheduler, and should find out in another 10 days or so.

As a few added items. I got my innoculation the same day, and scheduled my

CAT Scan a few days later(it was normal per the surgeon).

I hope the above is some help to you. All questions except item 10 were

answered to ny satisfaction. Oh, yeah, you also might ask the doctor how mant

CI's he has done.

Good luck with your appointment and surgery.

Congratulations! Ask your doctor and audiologist these questions:

1) Would the implant can be upgraded to have more channels in future,

as much as 120 channels, without re-implantation?

2) Would the implant and processor have a long battery life and

totally rechargeable?

3) Would the implant and processor to have low profile? Would it

withstand sweat, humidity, and rain?

4) Would the processor picks up the sounds from the ear lobe (pinna)

instead of over the ear?

5) How much sound the processor and implant can process? What about

sound input range or Sound Window? How many pulses per second? Can it

hear in noise? What about music appreication?

5) Where the incisions would be?

,

Questions for your Dr. should be related to the surgery and after

like mentions. The questions on are great and cover

about everything.

It is Unethical for any Dr. or Audie to suggest an implant " choice "

as Tex danny is trying to get you to ask. For Implant choice, YOU are

the only one that knows what features are right for YOU. Choosing an

implant that Tex Danny or anyone else wants you to get is NOT the

right choice for you. For me it was a no brainer and for a lot of

people lately the Freedom seems to have what they are looking for but

everyone is different.

If anyone tries to say their implant performs better than another

it is not scientifically possible for them to say that.

As advocates we are here to answer any questions you may have about

the implants that " we " have since we have experiance with them, but

not to tell you what implant to choose :-)

Good luck on your journey to sound and keep us posted.

Cheers,

Evel

I just received word that my CI surgery request is APPROVED by my

insurance company. Since my max deductible has been met, coverage is

at 100%. Whoo hoo!

Now all I need is a date! :)
