Elyssa,

There are not very many people with the MedEl implant on this forum,

but I'm sure that I speak for many others that we are all curious

about it. Please share more of your experiences with surgery and

activation, and where you had it done.

I have Cochlear Americas' N24C soft tip implant, and the 3-G processor BTE.

activated 12/04

I know it is not very many people get Medel. Medel implant came out 2001, I

think. I am not sure. I underwent to surgery on June 7th, 2005 and got Medel on

July 5th, 2005. Actually, It is my second cochlear implant. My first cochlear

implant was Nucleus 22 and not wear it anymore. I am using wear Medel now. It

is very good processors. I can hear a lot environment sounds, pure tone high

and low pitch, and vowels. I am focusing to listening skill without looking

read lip.

I was going to say the same thing, that I am glad to meet someone with the

Med-El implant, and am curious to learn about it.

Elissa, I have the Advanced Bionics 90k implant, I just passed my one year

CI anniversary.

Well, I was 8 years old and got Nucleus cochlear implant until 3 years later,

not working for me anymore. I give up that for 5 years because gave me headache

a lot and sound was very weird. It was very complicated to sound. Now, I love

my Medel and it is perfect for me. That's much better than my old cochear

implant. I am happy. I can hear almost everything.

Hi Elyssa -

Welcome to CI Hear! I'm glad to meet another MED-EL CI'er :) I've

had my implant for 3 1/2 years now and am still amazed by what I hear

with it. I'm glad to hear you are doing well with your CI, that's

terrific. If you have questions just ask and I'll do my best to

answer them.

Take care,

Pam

That's good, I need to meet the medel cochlear implanter. You like it? How was

processor? I jus curious. I love my medel ci. It is much better than my old ci.

Can you explain to me about 123 different program? Thanks. I hope talk to you

later.

Hi Pam, Elyssa,

I also have a Med El (Tempo), and I'm thinking about getting an implant

for my other ear. Maybe a Med El Pulsar, which is pretty new. I know

that Med El has had some reliability issues, so I'm trying to get more

information about those. I might get another brand. Anybody out there

with bilateral Med El implants or mixed Med El-and-something-else

implants with thoughts to share?

Thanks,

Hi Elyssa,

Do you have Med El Tempo? I do, and it allows you to store 3 programs in your

processor. That's what the 123 is about. When I go in for programming, my

audie puts the best of the previous 3 programs into 1 and gives me two new

programs to try out (2 and 3). If I don't like either of the two new ones, I

can always revert to program 1. Very nice feature!

Hi Elyssa-

I've had my implant since June of 2002 and was activated in July so

I've had my processor for 3 1/2 years now. I am able to understand

works without reading lips now and talk to my family on the phone.

It's been an amazing journey and one I'm so glad I took. It's neat for

me to be able to hear my six kids' voices and I can usually tell them

apart unless they are all talking at once. :) I'm glad to hear your

like your CI, keep working at it, listen to some books on tape for

practice and follow along with the printed version - make sure the

tapes are unabridged. This is great practice for learning how words

sound. I did this a lot when I first got my CI and I think it helped

me.

For the 123 programs, depending on how your audiologist programs you,

they will usually place three different programs, one in each number,

with different volume levels for each program on the XYZ switch. So

this way you can try out different programs to see how things sound in

each one. As you get used to your CI you'll probably get comfortable

with one program but that's a good thing, it means you're adapting to

your new hearing. Does that make sense? Let me know if you have any

other questions, I'd be glad to help!

Take care,

Pam

Hi Elyssa & Ed-

The Pulsar the implanted CI device that is the next generation of MED-

EL's CI. You, Ed and I now have the Combi 40+ implant which is the

previous generation MED-EL. The Tempo is the external part of the CI

that you wear on your ear and this is also being used with the Pulsar

until the new external processor is available. Does that answer your

question?
