looking for audiologist in Illinois

Hello

Can someone recommend me a good audiologist in Illinois?

I had my two initial mappings in Mayo clinic, but its getting very hard

to get there/ I had only two mappings since my activation day on

12/23/03 and think I can do better with more mappings.

And one more questions if anybody know if Medicaid covers the batteries for

implant.

Thanks for all your replies.

Svetlana,

Although I live in Indiana, I have heard wonderful things about Carle

Clinic in Urbana. I don't know where in Illinois you live; perhaps this

may be an option for you. If you go to this link:

http://www.cochlearamericas.com/Support/38.asp you can put your

information in and they will show the available clinics in your area.

They will also mail the information to your home and in the packet that

I received, audiologists were listed as well.

I don't know which device you have, but I would think that all the

clinics work with all brands currently on the market and would be happy

to accommodate you.

I know from a parent HOPING to have my child implanted, that finding

that right " fit " for a clinic is crucial.

Good luck and let me know if this helps.

Thanks a lot for information, !

I am trying to get an appointment with one of these places. So far three of them

kicked me out because of my insurance coverage is a Medicaid.

What can I do if I have to wait 2 years to get Medicare? Probably wait till then

to get a mapping....

Svetlana,

No problem! I'm glad I could help! <smile>

I really do hope you're able to find a CI center who accepts Medicaid.

If you're able to drive to Wisconsin, you may want to visit the CI center in

Milwaukee. Here is their address and contact information:

Koss Cochlear Implant Program

Froedtert Hospital/Medical College of Wisconsin

9200 W. Wisconsin Ave.

Milwaukee WI 53226

Phone: (414) 805-5586

Fax: (414) 476-4701

This is the same CI center I attend. The staff is wonderful and they accept

Medicaid coverage.

As for how long it takes to get on Medicare...I would be happy to ask my

benefits counselor about that. In the meantime, I hope you're able to find a

CI center who accepts Medicaid. Otherwise you might want to try the clinic I

mentioned above. If you decide to attend that center for a mapping and would

like the name of my audi, just let me know! :)

Svetlana,

I didn't even think about out of state coverage. To be honest, I don't know

if the Milwaukee clinic would accept IL Medicaid, but it wouldn't hurt to

call them and find out. Perhaps if you explain your situation, they would be

willing to see you for one mapping -- especially since it has been quite

awhile since you had one last. Hope this helps! <smile>

P.S. I will ask my benefits counselor what the typical waiting period is for

Medicare coverage and get back to you. :)

Hi Svetlana,

I sent a e-mail to you earlier at your address that I saw on Cochlear

news group.

Listed below is where I go. The staff is wonderful and have received

excellent service and have my mappings done also. The group was

highly recommended to me, very happy I chose to have my CI done thru

there.

The Chicago Otology Group

950 North York Road

Suite 102

Hinsdale, Illinois 60521-8608

Voice/TDD: (630) 789-3110

Fax: (630) 789-3137

This group also excepts Medicare and Medicaid, no problem at all.

Gooe Luck to you!
