Guest guest
, For my activation, I went alone but brought a video camera because I was sure it would be the most important day of my life. I have to say, it was very, very disappointing. I heard beeps but nothing remotely intelligible, plus the level of stimulation I could tolerate was way, way below what was considered optimal. I later taped over the entire film because it was such a letdown. But that was just Day 1. I'm 16 months into my implant now, and it sounds fabulous. I use the telephone and my only complaint, frankly, is that the world is sometimes just too LOUD. So, not to dampen your enthusiasim, but just be aware that Day 1 can be less than thrilling, and if so, that's completely normal. It means absolutely NOTHING in terms of your long-term implant success. But from my perspective, if I had a lot of people (with eager expectations) with me on Day 1, the pressure would probably have been too much. p.s. In terms of tinnitus, I had a horrible, horrible train roar running through my head after surgery, about every half hour and lasting for a minute or so. I was told it was caused by the disruption of the inner ear fluid due to the surgery and would subside within a week or so. Ha! Mine lasted 10 WEEKS! I was sure I would have this horrible roaring sound for the rest of my life, but it did eventually die down and go away completely. I also had a few very loud, high pitched sounds if I had pressure in my ears or throat, like from vomiting or coughing after surgery, too, but those also went away, so hopefully they will resolve themselves over time for you as well. Guest guest
Hi Anne, Thanks for warning me that activation may not be everything I hope it will be. Although this will be an exciting time for my family, friends and I, I will have to remind them (and myself!) that high hopes with low expectations are the rule for that day.
