Guest guest
Hi, Everyone, Many of you who have been on the forum for awhile know that I have been implanted for over 2 years and, while getting improved environmental sounds, have not obtained speech distinction that is usable in real life. This is despite aggressive AVT, frequent mappings with the best in the " business " and as much desire to " make it work " as any of us who took the ultimate challenge to improve our hearing and our lives. To make a long story short, I will be reimplanted in my same ear on Wed., Jan. 26. Many of you have encouraged me to look into this possibility for quite some time now. Testing and a visit with a new surgeon finally brought me to this point. As always, there are no guarantees that I will do any better with a new implant. Based on the opinions of my audiologists and surgeon, however, not to mention my own instincts, I do believe I will have a better chance for success. For me, it is worth a try, win or lose. (Dora, I'm dancing with you!) For those of you who have been struggling for a very long time, please ask your audiologist to do some testing, including an integrity test, to reassure yourself that your implant is in good working order. If tests show inconsistencies, your audi can help you achieve better results, and this does not have to include reimplantation. Anyway, I'll be out of town with no computer from Tuesday until Thursday. I will post as soon as I can upon returning home. Thanks to all have been supporting, encouraging, and sympathizing with me for so long! ) Jackie
Guest guest
OH WOW, Jackie! I had no idea it would come to this. I do hope things work out better for you. You really deserve it! What did the test results say that indicate a reimplantation is in order? Is it a faulty implant or faulty placement? Les

Guest guest
Jackie, I've been lurking for the most part since my mom died this summer and my life has flip-flopped, but I remember the nice conversations we've had. I'm surprised and dismayed to hear that you need a reimplantation, but feel you're doing the right thing. You deserve to hear better and I wish you all the best. Know my thoughts are with you. Guest guest
Jackie, I hope you haven’t run away before the members of this list have the opportunity to share their feelings with you. Your ever present support has been here for everyone and now it’s our turn to support you. As you know, I have been one of those you mentioned who has hoped that you would get to this point. There never are guarantees with a re-implant but you are giving yourself the opportunity to get your deserved reward. Now again, as before, I wish you all the best as you go in for surgery on Wednesday. Reimplantation, for the most part, does not require as much work on the part of the surgeon. The removal of the original array probably takes the longest. You will also have the opportunity to see how much the surgery itself has improved since your last one. Hugs go your way and I’ll be anxious to hear from you again, knowing you are home and comfortable. Alice -- No virus found in this incoming message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. Guest guest
Hi Jackie When I started reading the well wishes for your Wed surgery I thought everyone was mistaken..I thought was in Feb.So I reread your Email to me and sure enough it is this Wed.Wow! that is fast!!I am certainly happy to know that you aren't sitting it out but chose to dance with me.I certainly will be waiting and praying for you,Jackie! I agree wholeheartedly that anyone who is experiencing problems that just don't seem to get better will not give up..even if it means having to change centers. What you need just may be found somewhere else. A different center just might be experienced with what you need.I found what i needed.not once but twice and now I am experiencing wonderful hearing with my N22 once again.
