I am going to be anxious to read your experiences as a simultaneous recipient. For those of us who received ONE implant at first, I cannot imagine how overwhelming it might be to receive TWO at the same time! As for waiting for insurance denials for clinical trials, when I had my first CI back in 1996, my center also made me get that darned official denial before we moved ahead. In my case it wasn't so much a denial, as the cochlear implant was a specific EXCLUSION in my insurance policy. Thank Goodness I was able to educate the " powers that be " in my state government and in 2003 this exclusion was lifted! Yes! What a miracle these devices are for those of us who can benefit from them! We indeed live in an exciting time for people unfortunate enough to experience severe to profound hearing loss. There is so much more to offer us than back in the late 1940's and early 1950 when my hearing loss was first identified and treated! Warmly, Carol in WI wrote: Carol, what a nice post that was. Thank you so much for your support and kind words. I always love hearing other people's experiences with their CI's. It just reinforces that I'm making the right decision to do this. I'm just so happy that I have this option.
