In almost every case, your insurance does not pay for an upgrade, unless

there is a huge difference in performance (and this is where the letter

of medical necessity comes in). Cochlear has statistics that show people

do better with the Freedom than with the 3G. Your audiologist should

have received this information to help write the necessary letters.

Just have to convince the insurance company of it, and that you will do

so much better that it's worthwhile.

For the most part, if a company can still repair a broken processor, that

is what your insurance will pay for. Repairs, not upgrades.

Medicare starts the program, and everyone seems to follow their lead.
