Guest guest
In another forum there was a discussion about fully implantable CIs. If you had the opportunity to receive one, would you? Why or why not? , I would love to have a fully implantable CI. I think the battery issue is the main hang-up with them. If they can get a powerful and long-lasting battery that will hold up for at least a year, it could be reality. Wouldn't it be nice to still be able to hear while swimming, in the shower, and be able to wake up and hear if you get an emergency call in the night? It would also be nice from the standpoint of not having the processor knocked off during vigorous activities. I think you would be able to hear better and more naturally with fully implantable CI(s) (or hearing aid(s) for those people who can still benefit from them). Guest guest
Lynn, I agree with you about the battery issue being the main stumbling block when it comes to fully implantable CIs. Once that issue is resolved, we will be in a better position to discover the benefits of fully implantable CIs. Guest guest
, LOL. I'm standing in line right now...Care to join me? Actually, I'm not quite sure I'm ready for the fully implantable CI just yet. Although I like the idea of being able to hear at night, when swimming or taking a shower, I would like to read more about the experiences of others who have benefited from them before making the decision to have one myself. That being said, someone has to be a pioneer. I'm just not sure I'm that person -- but as you say, I have at least 10 years to think about it. <smile> , who is standing in line for an orange mocha Left ear - Nucleus 24 Contour Advance with 3G Implanted: 12/22/04 Activated: 1/18/05 Right ear - Nucleus Freedom Implanted: 2/1/06 Activated: 3/1/
Guest guest
Given that our current CI pioneers still have their original CIs from 20 years or so with upgradeable outer hardware, how will we be able to replace our newer CIs for the fully implantable ones? Guest guest
, My guess is that surgeons, audiologists and/or recipients will argue for more advanced technology (i.e. implantable CIs) -- although whether or not the insurance companies will agree is another question altogether. Guest guest
Patsy, Agreed! <smile> Just take a look at bilateral CIs for instance. More and more insurance companies are realizing the benefits of having two for those who wish to have them. Guest guest
, You and I are the only ones in the right line! Me too, I am not waiting. Now if Cochlear calls me up and says, you wanna do trials on this one? Free and you get the latest. I would go for it!
