Guest guest
Hello, Everyone, I'm sorrry I haven't written sooner, but here is my update. I was sequencially implanted on Friday, Sept.9 - last week. The surgery went quite well and my surgeon was very pleased. Unfortunately, the side affects have been a little unnerving. Now before some of you get scared off, please know that they are not bad. I've just been so very lucky the first two times that I was caught unprepared this time. Following surgery, I had vomiting for 24 hours, on and off. This was controlled in the hospital with suppossitories (oh my nurse and I became intimate! Blech!) and with pills to take at home. Upon being released from the hospital the following morning (surgeon's policy - one overnight stay) I have remained dizzy and nauseas for this entire week. I'm able to get myself showered and dressed, but not much else. My surgeon called me at home, midweek, to check on me, as well. Today I had an " incision check (disolvable stitches) " with my local doctor so I wouldn't have to travel to NY. She has perscribed anti-verts and an anti reflux drug to help get me through this awful feeling. She reassured me that I was fine and that, while she's not followed a CI patient before, she understood and explained the process of how the surgery upsets the equilibrium. With just one pill under my belt since our visit, I feel better phycologically that everything is proceding as normal. I'm to call her if I don't feel much better in the " dizzy department " by Monday. My friend (also has a CI) lives a few towns over and she graciously picked me up at my home, took and waited for me at the doctor, then took me to fill my perscriptions, saw me to my kitchen and watched me take my meds before leaving me with her phone number to call immediately should I need anything. My friend, Patti (Velma), sent me her eye exercises to help with dizziness. As lousy as I feel physicaly right now, I feel lucky. This will pass and is a small price to pay for hearing. By the way, the other CI is working beautifully so I was able to hear the doctor and what I couldn't hear, or the Doctor repeated for me. My hook-up is Sept. 28 and 29. In order to stay within my insurance deadline of Sept. 30, I will be activated by another audi within the group I use as my usual audi will be unavailable. I'm looking forward to this as what could be better than two experts working with me and giving me the best each has to offer? I'm sure they will be fighting to dump me on the other! LOL Anyway, that is my story and I'm sticking with it! If you are on the fence, Just Do It. It works, I tell you, this thing works! ) Jackie
Guest guest
Hey Jackie! Good to hear from you! Sounds like you are on the mend day by day! I had my surgery on Friday Sept. 2. I had a couple of days with nausea and slight dizziness. The dizziness I could control by deep breathing. The nausea I ended up taking phenergan for 2 days. Am now dealing with balance issues, but like you, am improving day by day! I believe you 110% when you say its a small price to pay for whats to come ahead! How the heck do you people stay calm waiting for activation day to arrive??!! LOL I keep saying high hopes low expectations then get it twisted saying high expections low hopes then correct myself and say it right and then think oh heck with it. Think positive ps...hope you've ended your intimate fling with the nurse! unless of course she was a handsome he....oh dear, I'm BAD (sacredemotion) Implanted 9/02/05 Activation 9/21/05 Freedom > Hello, Everyone, > I'm sorrry I haven't written sooner, but here is my update. > I was sequencially implanted on Friday, Sept.9 - last week. Guest guest
Hi Jackie! I was glad to see your post about today's doctor's appointment. Glad you got there! Sooo very sorry you still are not feeling good. May today be better than yesterday! You're in my thoughts. Prayers that you will be feeling more like yourself soon! Rest, rest, rest and while you are resting continue on with the eye exercises. They can't hurt and just might help your eyes, ears and brain to work together on your balance. Take care, friend!
