Guest guest
, If you don't mind my asking, what was your visual acuity as a child? My hearing loss was diagnosed at age 3 (mild at the time), but I never had enough residual vision to lipread. However, after I received my first pair of hearing aids for a moderately-severe hearing loss, my high school resource teachers required me to visit a speech and language pathologist once a week for lipreading classes. They knew I was legally blind (i.e. shadow and light perception), but wondered if I could lipread as long as someone was sitting directly in front of me. Needless to say, I couldn't, so my weekly visits with the SLP were cancelled. >smile> I know my resource teachers meant well (if it weren't for them, I probably wouldn't have received HAs when I did), but I can't help but chuckle at the image of me trying to lipread when all I could see was a shadowy blob without any shape, form or color.
