Guest guest
: Since both my ears were about the same, my surgeon picked my left ear. I'm left-handed and my CI is on the left side, I do not have any problem with holding the phone. If I need to write something down, I just hold the phone with my right hand. Hope this helps. Guest guest
Hi , I guess in your case it might almost be the toss of a coin, if there is no medical reason and the loss is equal in both ears it would seem to me it would make little difference which one was implanted, of course you could always say you can't decide so he has to do both - see if that works - lol. I have a tiny bit of residual hearing on the left so we implanted my right side, and I often think I would like to hear from the left in some situations, but then I remembered I can get a Transmit Coil with the longer wire so I can use the Processor on the left even though the implant is in my right ear so I guess for me it still does not matter (Note to self - order one of those coils soon) Regards Mike " Ears Hopin " P Implanted June 3rd, 2005 Activated July 6th, 2005 Nucleus Freedom Message: 4 Date: Sat, 11 Mar 2006 23:58:04 -0000 From: " " <suzimq@...> Subject: Which Ear? Guest guest
Mike, Well, there is a difference btwn the two ears as one has not heard anything since I was 6 years old and the other one has been " hearing " up until 3 months ago. I put hearing in quotation marks as I was pretty close to fully deaf but able to get a lot of benefit from my one hearing aid as I started wearing it when I was 5 yrs old and my hearing loss was progressive until I became 13 yrs old. I learned to use it by getting really good at filling in the blanks and guessing what would make sense when I couldn't hear/lipread something. I was even able to use both land and cell phones fairly well. Again, guess work and having person slow down and id the topic first or me limiting the topic first helped greatly. I had learned the tricks of the trade so to say. So, I'm going with the left ear as that has been the ear I've heard from and am used to hearing from that ear. It would be a double whammy for me to get used to a CI and to hearing from my other ear at the same time. I'm not a candidate for bilateral implants at all at this point. That may change in the future but surgeon and audie don't think it will and I sure don't either. I'm going to hopefully get so much more than I've ever had with hearing from that one ear. in SC
Guest guest
the plan is to do my worse ear (4%) not my better ear (20%) Which Ear?
