Guest guest
Do batteries matter? YES THEY DO. Cochlear sells batteries that are specifically designed for the high power needed to run a CI. The power draw is huge, and you need a battery designed for that. While it is convenient to be able to use over the counter hearing aid batteries to power yourself in an emergency, or if you forgot to bring a spare set, they are not designed for every day CI use. And people who try to save money by buying less expensive batteries, pay the cost in poor hearing quality. Meanwhile, if your father has a map for more than 2 weeks and doesn't like it, then he needs to go back for a remapping. It takes me about 10 days to adjust to a new map, and I always have the old map left on one of the slots. He's only been implanted since October, 2005, so has probably only been mapped since November 2005. Have him write down what things sound like to him, where he can and cannot hear, etc. All will help the audiologist. Do not just say, " good " and go. I'm wondering if this may be playing a part in my father's difficulty in hearing!!! Any suggestions??? He has has his CI since October 2005...he only goes to get re-mapped only about every other month or so! Is this normal...he's unhappy with the map he is on...I would like he should go in and change it! Does everyone agree???
