Guest guest
Hey Mike! If you have the news story available to send via email, I'd love to see a copy. I am just not sure how my new " shocking " problem (grin) is not CI related as it didn't happen at all prior to surgery, and I have it anytime I sit in furniture now. My dog must even feel it before I stand up, for he scurries out of the way as he's been shocked once to many times. I get up, touch the way and go on my merry way, almost without thinking now. So it's not a problem, but just " something new " for me! P

Guest guest
Hello all, I was always told that the best way to remove any static charge before touching or removing your Cochlear Implant is to touch something metallic to ground the charge, such as a metal doorknob or a sink faucet. Just my two cents worth. Guest guest
It could be a number of things. However just because your friend heard it on your CI it doesn't mean there is anything wrong with it. If you aren't hearing it then that is the main thing. When I was first activated I heard a lot of static but this was likely due to the narrow dynamic range (distance between the comfort and threshold levels). However when this increased over time with my subsequent mappings the static disappeared. Cochlear Freedom Implanted 9th June Activated 29th June > > > > What is static? Guest guest
The Freedom has a way for someone else to monitor what it receives via earphones? That's interesting. Can someone elaborate on that? Virg > What is static? I let my hearing friend listen at my Freedom thru the monitor earphones and she said she heard a static noise/sound. Guest guest
Virg, The Freedom has monitor earphones for a hearing person to listen to the processor. Of course, they can't hear exactly what we are hearing, but they can tell if the processor is working and would be able to tell if it is making a static sound. My husband listened to mine at my initial mapping and said the processor had a very clear sound to it. Guest guest
Terri, it just occurred to me that if it's quiet in the house in the morning you could be hearing the air from the furnace or ac or whatever else may be operating. When it's quiet here it isn't really totally quiet. If I think about it I hear things I can't identify. I can identify the sound of the furnace air, though. It sounds a bit like static. Guest guest
Virg, I know what you mean about environmental sounds sounding like static. But I did this " test " yesterday when I was at the gym (first time at the gym in about 6 months!). The background noise of the equipment stayed the same, but even when I adjusted my CI for sensitivity and volume to zero the background noise stayed exactly the same. I thought that was wierd, being used to the HA volume switch which turns thing down so you can't hear the sound anymore... So that's why I thinnk it's my tinnitus. The good news is that for some reason, it's quiet today - yeah! -Terri > > Terri, it just occurred to me that if it's quiet in the house in the > morning you could be hearing the air from the furnace or ac or > whatever else may be operating. Guest guest
Thanks - I have both. I am guessing you had both as well?? Today my tinnitus is quieter so I am very happy! I can deal with the static, but tinnitus plus static is very loud and wears me out! -Terri > > There is static and there is tinnitis. Guest guest
Terry, I had the static for a few months, and then it changed into environmental sounds and later speech. In time it gets better. The tinnitis is ongoing yearslater, but the processors help with masking this sound. Re: static Thanks - I have both. I am guessing you had both as well?? Guest guest
Hi Teri, I was activated about 3 weeks ago and I can say that a lot of things sound like static, the air conditioner, the heater, wind blowing, speaker phones, music. A lot of it has calmed down. I am expecting to hear it more with tomorrow mapping since I will go back to the stage of " Oh BOY, ITS LOUD!
