Guest guest
Irv, Wow, it really sounds like you are doing extremely well with your CI! Congratulations! 88% on a word test at only one month post activation is terrific! <smile> As for environmental sounds and music, yes -- both of them will improve over time. It took me 6 months before I could fully appreciate music. I'm now at 10 months post activation and music sounds better than it ever did with HAs! Keep up the great work! Good luck on your job search! <smile> Implanted: 12/22/04 Activated: 1/18/05 Deafblind/Postlingual BTE hearing aid user 20 years Severe-profound hearing loss 10 years
Guest guest
Irv, You are doing amazingly well in just a short time. So glad you were able to tweak the programs and get the echo out of there.. sometimes minor changes can make a great deal of difference. It's been 4 years since my implant and people.. including myself are still amazed at the things I am doing.. things I would never have dreamed of doing prior to being implanted. This tiny electronic miracle has given me back so much self confidence and taken away much of the fear of the unknown. I hope you are successful in locating a job. Please keep us posted on your progress. Great ci moments, talking to family on the phone. Wishing you continued great success. The Audie first put me in the " torture chamber " to see how I was doing. In the range of the speech frequencies, I was 20 to 25 DB, which she said was above the normal speech loudness. My word discrimination was 88%, up from virtually zero prior to my CI. Her reaction was " fantastic " ! > > Irv in Ca. > > Implanted(Freedom) - Sept. 13, 2005 > Activated - Oct. 7, 2005 > > > > ] >
Guest guest
Wow, Irv, 88% word discrimination 1 month after activation is very good. I just had another MAPping 2 1/2 months after activation, and my sentence was 72% with the first 3G, 93% with the Freedom and 98% with both ears. Guest guest
Hi . It looks like you are doing great also! Actually, I did not have a sentence test......only a word test in the booth. While the numbers are indicative of how one is doing, what is happening in real life is what is so wonderful. Knowing that I can now hear on the phone, my two nieces called me last night on the spur of the moment. IMHO, that is the real value of my CI. I know you believe that as well. Have a nice holiday, and it is always nice hearing from you. <wdywms@...> wrote: Wow, Irv, 88% word discrimination 1 month after activation is very good. Guest guest
, Wow! 98% speech understanding with both ears at 2.5 months post activation is great!! Are you noticing that you have a somewhat easier time hearing in noise or has this not changed since getting your second CI? Guest guest
, When I arrived at the audie's office on Wednesday I was having a hard time hearing in noise and my discrimination was poor with the 3G. With the new MAPping I am hearing in noise much better. I was please being able to hear my SSP with people talking all around me in the store. Guest guest
, That's great! How do you communicate with your SSP while grocery shopping? Do you use tactile sign, an FM system or no accommodations at all? In addition to being able to localize sounds, my surgeon also feels that a second CI will improve my speech discrimination. While my percentage is nothing to complain about (98% in quiet), he thinks I may be able to raise this percentage to 100% with two CIs. That being said, the ultimate concern my surgeon, audi and I have is my ability to localize sound. I have an appointment with my HA audi on Monday to increase the low frequencies in my hearing aid. Hopefully that will work well for me until I'm able to receive my second CI. My audi also mentioned the initial adjustment it would take for me to become used to my second CI -- especially after new mappings. Based on reading your experiences and those of others on the list, I know it's possible to tweak both CIs so that they blend together instead of sounding completely different. If I'm approved for a second CI, it will be interesting to compare notes with the rest of the list (while keeping in mind that experiences differ from person to person). Here's wishing you continued success with your second CI! <smile> Implanted: 12/22/04 Activated: 1/18/05 Deafblind/Postlingual BTE hearing aid user 20 years Severe-profound hearing loss 10 years

Guest guest
, I thought that was probably the case, but didn't want to make any assumptions.
