Guest guest
Hi , I really think my analogy of an Amish car mechanic holds in this case. The fact that Bleeding heart is rather rude in his comments is something that cannot be ignored. If a person is implanted and not doing well with it, she needs to hear GOOD, friendly advice on what steps to take. A person who has gone through the same process can help. Write down what sounds you aren't hearing, schedule another mapping, etc. In other words, EMPOWER a person to get the best mapping available. Being insulted and belittled by someone who hasn't even started on the journey even if he's read everything available, is not the kind of advice a person needs at a time like this. This is supposed to be a friendly forum, with people in the same situation offering help, not some self styled expert dispensing advice based on what he's read. Surgeons and audiologist are arbiters on WHO qualifies for an implant. They are not the final arbiters on how an implant works. They can't be. My implant surgeon often referred people to me because he KNEW that I could tell them what he could not. I once told him that music sounded discordant, and he wanted to know what I meant. I asked if he remembered records, you know those vinyl things that went on a turntable? If a record got warped, the sound was weird. THAT was the sound I was talking about. Once I put it into terms HE could understand based on record players, then he knew what I was talking about. He was trying to tell me it was the difference between digital and some other kind of processing. The audiologists are the same. While I can't tell an audi HOW to map a processor, I can tell her what things should not be there and what should. The Original Also how many CI surgeons, audiologists, etc are implanted? Yet they are the ones who are supposed to be the final arbiters, so the fact that BP doesn't have an implant doesn't mean the advice or comments have any less value.
