Guest guest
Hi Jenni & Bill, Can you tell us more about the St Jude device, I've never heard of it. Since it works for you, maybe it will work for others who have a ICD. Thanks,
Guest guest
I cant tell you much about it except that I'm satified with it. In my case it's programmed to monitor if my heartbeat go about 140 then therapy at 160 bpm. the therapy consist of trying to speed my heart up by about 10 bpm for 10 beats then slowing it down to normal. It trys this 6 times before it zaps me. I'm sure the other icds can be programmed the same way. this gives me more of a chnace to get back to normal without being zapped. It was programmed this way after I got zapped 3 times on 3 different occasions. but since then (2.5 yrs) i only recieved the pacing therapy once and no zapps at all. been lucky so far it is also a pacemaker. I'm sure the other manufactors offer the same things. any other questions let me know Bill + ZeusAgathacs@... wrote: Hi Jenni & Bill, Can you tell us more about the St Jude device, I've never heard of it. Guest guest
I am from Maine's mom and he does have the St Jude device. WE also is doing ok. His sister and her 2 children are now being screened for 's condition. It is called Right Ventricle Dysplasia. We are all worried as his sister has a slight abnormality in her R Ventricle and children may also be at risk. Guest guest
Hi Doug, Thanks for the info. Next time I get zapped & talk to my doctor. I'll mention the St. Jude device. Apparantly, It works better than the Medtronic device I have. I'm lucky if I went 6 months without getting zapped since my first ICD. Then again, I'm sure we've all been told that we should take comfort in knowing that the ICD is doing its job and the reasons why we do get zapped is unrelated to the ICD. Take care, Chris
Guest guest
Amen and I will second that. I just had along talk with my haert Doc (Dr. Terry Gordon) about a trip I might get to take to Hawaii in April. I had a million questions and had written them down and called his office with my list he called me back late in the evening. I have a very personal relationship with him and we are on a first name bases. His basic replay was go to Hawaii and have a hella of a good time, use common sense and stay out of helicopters or the crater. I said oh God could this cause a problem he said yes that one of his fis got killed in one sometimes they aren't real safe and very old. I was worried about the flight the longness of the flight what if I got zapped, should I carry a magnet, did I need a special letter to get through the security, what about allevitaion, hot tubs, volcanno's, ocean waves and etc. He said use common sense and don't let the waves hit you direct on the front other than that shut up have a good time and leave the flying to the pilot,
Guest guest
Run up 3 flights of stairs as fast as you can and you might change your tune. ROTFL I don't have a St.Jude Model but never try to run up 3 flights of stairs. I guarantee you will get shocked. That's how I got shocked. I was worry free for 3 months and so I tested my heart and it failed the test. So... shock! shock! shock! shock! shock! shock! shock! 7 shocks. I know my limit and you will too. > > I was wondering if many people had a St Judes device I haven't read > or heard much about them and that is what I have. Guest guest
Gawd am I jealous..dont forget to take your card to get past security at the airport. Guidant has one specificly for this that they will send to you if you request it. Not sure about the makers of the other devices. No wand and I have them walk me around instead of going thru the security gate. The pat down has never been drastic enough to threaten my modesty. Just relax and make um treat you special. And don’t worry, just take your cards etc. Debbie in so. cali From: IIPistacio@... [mailto:IIPistacio@...] Sent: Sunday, March 13, 2005 2:27 PM Subject: Re: Re: Devices Amen and I will second that. Guest guest
Actually, post-surgery, I can do that. I know many of you can't but that's okay. We may have similarities, but we shouldn't try to compare and we shouldn't assume that what is true for one is true for all. We all have our devices for different reasons and makes us all a little different. Bridget > > Run up 3 flights of stairs as fast as you can and you might change > your tune. Guest guest
I'm 41. My heart problems were all caused by a clotting disorder and a big ol' clot related MI in 1998. After they went in and repaired the aneurysm that formed at the site of the MI, my heart is relatively functional but I still have a chance of an electrical malfunction because of the scarring. If you have some other heart problem, like CHF, Long QT, etc. you could get zapped way more often than I do and for less strenuous things. At this point, mine is like waiting for lightning to strike - either the electrical function of my heart will work fine or it will someday have a short and physical exertion isn't the key factor for me that it is for others with different problem. Or even the factor that it was for me pre-surgery when my heart was barely pumping any blood out of the left ventrical. Bridget > > > > > > Actually, post-surgery, I can do that.
