Guest guest
Hi Dora, This is Judy, you email me about your two books. I just want to tell you I don't know how to use this computer to well. I just started using it in Nov. to talk to a friend with a C I. I couldn't hear with the relay and never got one before. The first time she called I didn't know what was happening. My husband was trying to help me get ifo on CI and we found the bulletin board and for some reason I'm getting some peoples mail. I need a CI but am having a lot of trouble with the Ins and finding out how much this whole thing is going to cost me. I need to know if I can pay what the ins doesn't. I don't know what is happening but sense I went to have a test on my ears they are getting worse all most by the day it is scaring the day lights out of me. I'm sorry I got your letter, I hope maybe you will keep in touch with me by email. Its really nice to talk to people that have gone through this. Its pretty scary. thanks Judy
Guest guest
I went yesterday to be activated & I can hear some but basically everything sounds muffled & @ times overwhelming noisy. I'm supposed to go without my HA to train my brain to get used to the CI. I know I have been told by so many people not to expect much in the beginning. I chose the behind the ear device as I have the behind the ear HA. However, the weight of the battery bothers my ear & now I'm wondering if I chose the right type. I brought up getting away from having to read lips eventually to my audiologist & she told me that I may always have to read lips. This was very discouraging to hear..... My husband is very encouraging & says things will get better.....
Guest guest
I had a horrible activation 5 years ago but I was less prepared for the wide realm of possibilities. The only thing I was first able to hear were beeps and squeaks and white noise. No speech comprehension at all! Environmental sounds came to me first. I relied heavily on speech reading and using the residual hearing I had in my unimplanted ear the first few months. Everyone on the forum kept telling me things would get better so I had no choice but to believe them...and boy did they ever!! Yes, it is true that many people continue to need to read lips with their implant. The audies and surgeons always let us know that before we get an implant. But no matter what you will experience improvement at whatever pace your brain will allow. Celebrate each day! Find one new sound! One tiny step at a time!! Guest guest
Just another observation, on some very high frequency sound, it sounded like " white noise " then going away...
