Hi Harriette,

Sorry to hear your husband has had one failure, and what looks like

another one. While rare, it is not unheard of. There is another person

I've corresponded with on another list who has the same problem. Two

failures with the same manufacturer's device. And she is getting

implanted again, this time with a Nucleus Freedom.

So, what I would suggest is that you get all of your husband's

records, like CT scans, MRI's and any other tests that were done before

both implants, and take them to the implant center (or another one if

you'd feel more comfortable using a different center). Saves you the

cost of repeating tests.

And yes, people have switched implant manufacturers.

Good luck to your husband, let us know how it goes.

Hello,

I have not posted to this particular forum but I am hoping that

someone may have experienced a similar situation. My husbands 1st

implant from another manufacturer failed, he was reimplanted in same

ear with device from this same manufacturer and it appears to be

failing again. Has anyone hear experienced multiple failures and then

switched manufacturers?

This has been pretty devastating for him to experience two product

failures and I'm hoping that perhaps other people might share their

experences.

Thank you,

Harriette

Hi ,

Thanks for the reply. was implanted with a CII 4 years ago.

6months into it he was doing well and then suddenly his hearing

started to worsen. It took awhile but finally in spring of 05 they

determined that it was implant failure. Last year in June he was

reimplanted with HiRes 90K (manufacturer B). Now is is losing his

hearing again. In part due to migration but also he is experiencing

the exact same pain and sounds that he experienced with the first

failure. He does not wish to implant his other ear but we had hopes

that maybe a change in manufactuer may be prudent.

I am trying to encourage him to seek additional opinions but right

now he is too depressed and discouraged to make any type of

decisions.
